Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often predicted that, in the future an increasing number of people will choose their own country for travel rather than going abroad. I partly agree with this statement. Although, domestic tourism offers several advantages, however international tourism will stay popular for people who want to explore different culture and destination. This essay will discuss both prospectives.

To commence with, there are numerous advantages of domestic travelling. The first and the foremost advantage is convenience. Nowadays, large numbers of pupils prefer to travel in their personal vehicle so that they can bring some snacks and food with them during their trip. And they have freedom to stop in-between their journey wherever they find any beautiful scenic view or a sunset view and take picture with their friends and family. Secondly, people find domestic holiday cheaper than abroad because they do not need to spend huge amounts of money on visa application and travel expense’s which is not easy to afford for a middle-class family to go on a vacation all together. Whereas in domestic holiday the whole family can go together with less budget and, they are more aware about the environmental issues of their own country so that they can organize accordingly.

However, I do not believe that international tourism will decline significantly. One of the main reasons is people travel aboard is to experience different culture and try different cuisines and visit different new places that are not available in their own country. People choose abroad for their holidays to make some special moments and create memories with their loved ones. For example, someone who lives in Canada will prefer to visit United States, Italy and Europe to explore new places and learn new cultures of different countries.

IN conclusion, I believe that domestic tourism will become more people in the future because it is more convenient, cheaper and potentially more environment friendly. Nevertheless, international tourism will continue to attract many people because of their uniqueness and opportunity to learn different cultures and collect memories.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both domestic and international tourism. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant, such as the convenience of domestic travel and the cultural appeal of international trips. However, some points could be more fully developed; for instance, the environmental argument is mentioned but not explained in depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that every point is supported by a clear, logical explanation rather than just a list of advantages. Overall, the task is well-addressed with a consistent viewpoint.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Secondly', 'However', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. While the structure is sound, some transitions are slightly mechanical or redundant, such as using 'Although' and 'however' in the same sentence in the introduction. Additionally, some referencing is slightly repetitive. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences flow more naturally into one another would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'domestic tourism', 'environmental issues', and 'uniqueness'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'domestic tourism will become more people' (which should be 'more popular') and 'travel expense’s' (where the apostrophe is unnecessary). While you attempt to use more sophisticated language, the range is somewhat limited. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing, such as the frequent use of 'different' and 'places'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include 'domestic tourism will become more people', 'travel expense’s', and the incorrect use of 'Although' followed by 'however' in the same sentence. Punctuation errors, such as unnecessary commas and apostrophes, occur throughout. To achieve a higher score, you should aim for greater accuracy in complex structures and pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of punctuation marks.
