Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing debate that in the future people will prefer to spend their holiday in their home nation rather than travel abroad on holiday. I would want to argue in this essay in favour of those agree that most tourists will visit their home country than sister nations in the nearest future.

On the one hand, most people will choose their country because it gives them an opportunity to meet family members and old friends. For instance, if they travel during the local festivals of their home community it will enable them to participate instead of joining virtually. In addition, if they have young ones, they will have the opportunity of knowing their culture and make new friends.

Furthermore, they will spend the money the earned in the foreign land in their home country, which will help to boost economic activities especially in the entertainment sector. This will create more jobs in the country of their birth. When there is more jobs, agitations among unemployed graduates or teenagers will reduce drastically. This will also reduce the crime rate in places with a high jobless people. Because seems to be a correlation between unemployment and high crime rate in most developing nations.

In conclusion, those in diaspora spending their holidays in there home countries have unlimited benefits if harnessed properly. Governments should increase awareness among such groups to tap from these enormous advantages to build their nation. No nation can survive alone without inflows or investment from people of other countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of domestic tourism. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the point about family connection is relevant, the argument regarding economic benefits focuses heavily on the 'diaspora' returning home, which slightly shifts the focus away from the general population's choice to holiday domestically. The ideas are relevant, but the explanation could be more nuanced to fully explore the future trend mentioned in the prompt. The conclusion introduces a new perspective about the diaspora that was not fully integrated into the body paragraphs, which limits the overall cohesion of the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'Furthermore,' and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'Because seems to be a correlation,' where the subject is missing. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the final paragraph introduces a new concept (the diaspora) that feels slightly disconnected from the previous arguments about local festivals and family, which affects the overall flow of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'agitations,' 'drastically,' and 'diaspora.' However, there are instances of awkward word choice and collocation, such as 'sister nations' (which is not standard for neighboring countries) and 'the money the earned' (grammatical error affecting lexical accuracy). The range is sufficient to communicate the main points, but more precise and varied vocabulary would be needed to reach a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'those agree that' (should be 'those who agree'), 'When there is more jobs' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'Because seems to be a correlation' (fragmented sentence). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the frequency of these minor grammatical slips prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The writer demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences, but control over these structures remains inconsistent.
