IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Exploring new places has become common for people in the current phase, and I think this trend will continue in the future too. I completely disagree with the statement which states that individuals will prefer spending their vacation in their home country rather than going abroad. This is because of limited options available and their willingness to know different people of all cultures that will benefit them in the long run.
Analyzing the statement and explaining further, every country is not perfect in providing all the necessities for a successful holiday. This is due to the fact that based on the location and the preferences of their citizens, some regions will not be able to make their people satisfied even though they spend a lot of money to enjoy it. Furthermore, a majority of the high-skilled activities require high-end equipment and skilled persons, which some countries lack, and they won't be able to provide to the people. For instance, in India, no one has the capability to conduct skydiving and bungee jumping, for which individuals will turn to foreign countries like the UAE and the USA, and even India doesn't host vibrant beaches. Therefore, they will opt to visit another destination to fulfill their dream.
Probing ahead, exploring numerous regions will open doors for achieving success in their lives. At a certain point of time, they might be exhausted by living with people of the same culture, and hence will travel to new places to enlarge their presence. Moreover, by going to a different country, they may even love the culture, their infrastructure, and the economic opportunities that they don't observe in their own country, which can have a favourable outcome if that matches their needs. For instance, a person, when on a holiday, observes that an engineer is getting paid more in Australia than in India, then he will definitely prefer that country where he can meet his goals and fulfill his needs. Hence, this can influence a person's mind, and he will encourage more people to try this approach.
To recapitulate from the information aforementioned above, we can clearly state that people will not stick to the option of just travelling domestically while ignoring international countries. As they won't get everything they need in a particular region for a perfect holiday, their inclination towards meeting new people from all over the world, and those nations' credibility to provide numerous facilities that would make them thrilled to try to visit all nations worldwide.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt clearly, maintaining a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding the limitations of domestic tourism and the desire for cultural exposure are relevant. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. For instance, the transition from holiday preferences to career opportunities in the third paragraph is a bit tangential; while it supports the idea of international travel, it drifts away from the core topic of 'holiday' travel. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, but the overall development could be more focused on the specific benefits of international tourism versus domestic options to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'For instance', and 'To recapitulate' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by slightly awkward phrasing, such as 'Probing ahead' or 'To recapitulate from the information aforementioned above', which is redundant. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the logical links between sentences could be more sophisticated to achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate and allows for the expression of ideas, though it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. There are some instances of slightly unnatural collocations, such as 'enlarge their presence' or 'nations' credibility to provide numerous facilities'. While the student attempts to use less common vocabulary, the word choice is sometimes imprecise. The range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility or stylistic awareness expected at the Band 7 level or above.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a reasonable attempt at complex grammar, but errors persist, particularly in subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'every country is not perfect', 'the information aforementioned above'). Some sentences are slightly convoluted, which occasionally impacts readability. While the errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the response from reaching the Band 7 level, which requires more frequent error-free sentences and better control over complex structures.
