Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's rapidly changing world, vocations and traveling have become a matter of considerable debate. while some individuals believe that enjoying vocations in their own country is preferable, others argue that traveling abroad is wastage of money and mitigating ones country's reputation. I strongly disagree that people shouldn't travel to other country because traveling to different locations gives an opportunity to experience wide range of cultures and cuisines.

One of the main reasons why spending vocation time in others countries is considered beneficial is that it facilitates individuals in learning different languages and adapting to different conditions. This is because people often work among their own people with same language spoken and similar kind of food eaten every day. For example, people working in the same office communicate in their mother tongue and don't get exposure of new languages which results in toxic environment where one couldn't learn and experience different things which would actually make life valuable and worth living.

On other hand, students from their native country move to different countries like Australia, UK and Canada to pursue their higher degrees and learn other country's culture and language which make them increasingly informative regarding other countries rules and regulations, choices of food, speaking behaviour, cultural differences and especially dressing styles.

In conclusion, although the country where people are born can instigate people to explore and experience their own country's culture and brag about it, I believe moving out of your country and exploring different parts of the world with interesting stories of wars and cultures will motivate people to keep themselves growing and discussing stories with other people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the idea that people will only holiday in their own country. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the argument regarding cultural exposure is relevant, the second paragraph focuses heavily on students moving abroad for education, which is only tangentially related to the topic of 'holidays'. The conclusion introduces new, slightly confusing ideas about 'wars and cultures' that were not previously established. To improve, ensure that every supporting point directly relates to the concept of tourism and leisure travel rather than migration or long-term study.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'One of the main reasons', 'On other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the flow within paragraphs is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as the transition between the benefits of learning languages and the 'toxic environment' claim. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, and the connection between the ideas in the final paragraph could be more tightly linked to the main argument to ensure a smoother progression of thought.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, though there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors. For example, 'vocations' is used instead of 'vacations' or 'holidays', and 'mitigating ones country's reputation' is an incorrect collocation. Phrases like 'brag about it' are too informal for an IELTS essay. While the student attempts to use a range of vocabulary, the lack of precision in word choice and occasional misuse of terms prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on more academic collocations would significantly improve the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'traveling to other country' (missing article), 'in others countries' (incorrect pluralization), and 'don't get exposure of new languages' (preposition error). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are missing commas in complex sentences. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they occur frequently enough to indicate a lack of full control over complex structures. Increasing the accuracy of articles and prepositions will help elevate the score.
