IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
It has been predicted that holiday destinations for most of the individuals will be their own country rather than visiting international places. I agree with this approach as I believe that there is more to explore in your own country. However, people should also consider holidays abroad for new experiences.
The main reason is that some countries have a wide range of tourist destinations which are easy to explore as it doesn't need to apply for passoport and visas. Travelling in your native country is more convenient than other as there is no requirements to pass the immigration rules and regulations. One can travel across the country with a familiar transportation system. For example, Canada has diverse holiday sites to explore. Each province has enormous national parks, beaches, mountains and falls which are barely explored by Canadians and travelling across the nation is quite easy and it is free access to everyone.
Another reason is that domestic holidays are much cheaper. People do not need to pay for expensive flights and worry about packing the necessary things for travel. Additionally, they would be familiar with the currency. Spending in a different currency may disturb their budget as currency rates fluctuate. Moreover, learning a different language to travel abroad takes time and practice which can cause delays in visiting a foreign country. For example, to travel to Japan, one should learn Japanese to communicate with people which is required when asking for directions, food and purchasing goods.
However, people should also travel abroad to broaden their knowledge and experience the uniqueness of culture, food and other aspects of different lifestyles.
Overall, holiday destinations in your own country can give a home like experience but travelling abroad broadens your horizon. So people should consider both destinations to experience the diversity and uniqueness of culture.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a balanced position, acknowledging the benefits of domestic travel while also noting the value of international trips. The ideas are relevant, particularly the points regarding convenience, cost, and language barriers. However, the development is somewhat uneven; the argument for domestic travel is well-supported with examples like Canada, but the counter-argument regarding international travel is quite brief and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that both sides of the argument are explored with equal detail and that your position remains consistent throughout the essay. Overall, the task is addressed adequately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific theme. You use cohesive devices such as 'The main reason is', 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'However' to guide the reader through your arguments. While the progression is generally clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be more precise in places. For instance, the link between the final paragraph and the preceding arguments could be smoother to create a more cohesive conclusion. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the logical flow is sufficient to follow your line of reasoning without difficulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuate', 'diverse', and 'uniqueness' correctly. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'it doesn't need to apply for passoport' (should be 'one does not need to apply for a passport') and 'it is free access to everyone' (should be 'there is free access'). While you attempt to use more sophisticated vocabulary, the range is somewhat limited, and some phrasing is slightly repetitive. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and varying your word choice to avoid repeating 'travel' and 'holiday' frequently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a positive feature. However, there are several grammatical errors that persist throughout the text, such as 'there is no requirements' (should be 'there are no requirements') and 'it doesn't need to apply' (should be 'one does not need to apply'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article usage errors. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would significantly enhance the accuracy of your writing.
