Student answer (Band 6.5)

Travelling is an important way for people to relax and explore new places. Some individuals believe that, in upcoming future more people will choose domestic holiday options instead of international destinations. I partly agree with this view because local tourism is increasing exponentially. Whereas, I believe international travel will remain popular.

On the one hand, travelling within one's own country has become more convenient and affordable than before. Many governments are working investing in domestic tourism by improving transportation, infrastructure and promoting historical towns. As a result, people can enjoy high quality commuting experience without spending a penny on visas and flights. For instance, many Canadians prefer going to Banff national parks or Jasper lake to enjoy beautiful scenery. Therefore, domestic future in those particular region is going to be more appealing in future.

On the other hand, I do not believe that international travel will be disappear. Many people prefer travelling to different countries to know about various cultures , try different cuisines and learn different languages. For instance, someone interested in ancient history may wish to visit Egypt to see the pyramids or travel to Italy to explore historical landmarks.

In my opinion, although domestic holidays may become more common due to their convenience and lower cost, many people will still choose overseas travel to broaden their knowledge and create unforgettable memories.

To encapsulate, I partly agree that domestic tourism will be increasing rapidly because its cheaper and feasible. Nevertheless, I believe international tourism will continue to attract people who wants to learn about different culture and learn new languages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that balances domestic and international tourism. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the mention of Canadian national parks and the cultural appeal of Italy and Egypt. However, the development of these points is somewhat brief. To reach a higher band, you could expand on the 'why' behind the shift—for instance, discussing the impact of environmental concerns or economic instability on travel choices. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, though it repeats points already made rather than synthesizing them into a final thought. Overall, the task is addressed adequately with a consistent position maintained throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use transition signals such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'To encapsulate' to guide the reader through your argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two sides of the debate. However, some cohesive devices are used in a slightly mechanical way, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the phrase 'domestic future in those particular region' which lacks a clear antecedent and contains a grammatical error. Improving the flow between sentences within paragraphs would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision, using terms like 'exponentially,' 'infrastructure,' and 'landmarks.' There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'working investing' (should be 'working on investing') and 'domestic future' (which is not a standard collocation for tourism). While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, some phrases feel slightly unnatural. To improve, focus on using collocations more accurately and ensuring that your word choices are contextually appropriate. The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'international travel will be disappear' (should be 'will disappear'), 'who wants to learn' (should be 'who want to learn'), and 'because its cheaper' (should be 'because it is cheaper'). Punctuation is generally correct, but there are minor slips, such as the spacing before the comma in 'cultures , try'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your score.
