Student answer (Band 6.5)

Travelling is a great leisure activity as you get some time to feel refreshed from day to day chores. After few years, more people will explore their nation for a vacation instead of considering going to overseas destinations. I partially agree with this view.

To commence with, travel industry has seen an substantial growth in recent years. Additionally, domestic travel has soared to become more popular as it is more affordable and is convenient then going overseas. Not only it boosts the local economy by generating revenues but also supports the livelihood of people living in such communities or cities. To illustrate, Uttar Pradesh in India has seen a transformative change since they have shifted their focus on promoting tourists place as a lot of visitors are coming which eventually has pulled out significant number of people from poverty residing in those areas.

On the other hand, travelling abroad has its own pros and cons. One of the major reason is the language barrier, many tourists avoid travelling to such places as they fear when something goes wrong it would be a dreadful situation to end up in. Moreover, it is also considerably expensive compared to travelling in local places due to the currency differences. Furthermore, when individuals want to visit abroad they have to go through various visa procedures which can be overwhelming. Nonetheless, despite this many still choose it because of the breath-taking views it has, to experience their culture, and their quality of life.

To conclude, inarguably travelling either in domestic locations or in outside countries will differ as per the person own point of view. However, people should consider choosing their own country firsts as it could boosts the overall economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that is maintained throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic benefits of domestic tourism and the challenges of international travel like visa procedures and language barriers. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat uneven. While the example of Uttar Pradesh is specific and effective, the discussion on international travel could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. The conclusion is a bit brief and could have better synthesised the arguments presented in the body paragraphs to provide a more robust final summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two sides of the argument. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Additionally', 'On the other hand', and 'Nonetheless' are used to guide the reader. However, there are some minor issues with mechanical usage, such as 'Not only it boosts' which should be 'Not only does it boost'. The flow is generally smooth, but the transition between the benefits of domestic travel and the drawbacks of international travel could be more sophisticated to improve the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate and allows for clear communication. There are some good collocations like 'transformative change' and 'leisure activity'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'promoting tourists place' (should be 'tourist destinations') and 'choosing their own country firsts' (should be 'first'). The range is sufficient for the task, but the use of less common lexical items is limited and occasionally slightly inaccurate. To improve, focus on more precise terminology related to the tourism industry and ensure correct pluralisation and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent minor grammatical errors. Examples include 'After few years' (missing article 'a'), 'is convenient then going' (should be 'than'), and 'it could boosts' (should be 'boost'). These errors do not impede communication, but they are persistent enough to prevent a higher score. The control of complex structures is present but not always accurate. Increasing the frequency of error-free sentences through careful proofreading would significantly improve the score in this criterion.
