IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Large count of people will prefer to spend their vacations in their own nation in the future rather than travelling abroad. I completely disagree with this statement because visitors can experience different cultures as well as lifestyles on a foreign trip.
Domestic trips are easier to access and people can save money because they do not require a visa, international flights or currency exchange. However, travelling to foreign countries has numerous benefits. First of all,
people will get a chance to enhance their social circle by meeting new individuals and will be able to enjoy a different environment, traditions and cultures. It not only provides them knowledge about different nations but also helps them to learn a new language. Moreover, mortals will taste a variety of foods according to the places, which makes their trip more memorable as compared to a normal holiday at home.
Another reason is that travelling abroad that many countries have a wide variety of tourist attractions. These places provide calm, relaxation and different exposure to the people. Unless people go to different places, they will never get a chance to explore the world full of mysteries, beautiful sights as well as lifestyles. Last but not least, with a foreign trip, children can learn about communication skills and new words that directly enhance their academic performance.
In conclusion, although local holidays are cheaper and stress-free for the travellers, I believe that spending holidays in abroad is more interesting because individuals will gain knowledge about different cultures, food and traditions as well, which is a unique experience for them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response clearly states a position against the prompt and maintains it throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on cultural exchange, personal development, and tourism variety. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the benefits of international travel are well-supported, the counter-argument regarding domestic travel is acknowledged but dismissed rather quickly. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that the reasons provided are more deeply explored with specific examples or more detailed explanations. The structure is logical, and the response addresses all parts of the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Moreover', 'Another reason', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as in the sentence 'Another reason is that travelling abroad that many countries have...', where the syntax is disjointed. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, which helps the overall flow of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'enhance their social circle', 'tourist attractions', and 'memorable'. There are some instances of slightly unnatural word choices, such as using 'mortals' to refer to people, which is stylistically inappropriate in this context. Additionally, there is a minor error in 'spending holidays in abroad', where the preposition 'in' is unnecessary. Despite these minor inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are recurring grammatical errors. For example, 'Large count of people' is an awkward collocation; 'A large number of people' would be more accurate. There are also issues with article usage and sentence construction, such as 'travelling abroad that many countries have', which lacks a clear subject-verb connection. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more consistent control over complex structures and prepositional phrases.
