IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
In future, more people may choose to spend their holidays in their own country rather than travelling worldwide. Domestic holidays are easier because people don't have to travel long distances or deal with international travel requirements.I agree with this view because travelling within one's own country is generally more convenient and less complicated. Furthermore, It will boost the country's economy, which helps local people to earn an income.
Domestic travel is more convenient and less complicated. People do not have to deal with visa requirements because they do not need to prepare documents or wait for visa approval when travelling within their own country. As a result, people can save time and avoid the stress associated with international travel. For example, a family travelling within Canada can visit several places and spend quality time together without having to deal with the lengthy process of obtaining a visa.
Domestic tourism can boost the country's economy by creating income and employment opportunities for local communities. It attracts more people to tourist destinations, who spend money on accommodation, transport and food. As a result, local businesses can earn money and expand. They can create more jobs for local residents. For example, when domestic tourists visit Niagara Falls or Banff, local hotels, restaurant's and transport businesses can benefit from increased spending and expand their operations.
In Conclusion, I agree that more people will choose domestic holidays because of their convenience and economic benefits. Domestic tourism can save travellers time and stress while also supporting local businesses and creating employment opportunities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses the prompt clearly, maintaining a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding convenience and economic benefits are relevant and well-supported with examples, such as the mention of visa processes and specific Canadian tourist destinations. The ideas are logically developed, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points. To reach a higher band, the response could benefit from a more nuanced exploration of the counter-argument or a deeper analysis of why this trend might occur, rather than just listing benefits. However, all parts of the task are addressed, and the position is clear.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'As a result', and 'In Conclusion' are used effectively to link ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main arguments. The flow is smooth, and the relationship between sentences is clear. To improve, the writer could vary the cohesive devices further to avoid a slightly mechanical feel in the transition between sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient for the task and allows for clear communication. The student uses topic-specific terms like 'domestic tourism', 'visa requirements', and 'economic benefits' appropriately. There is an attempt to use a range of vocabulary, though some phrasing is relatively simple. There is a minor punctuation error ('restaurant's' instead of 'restaurants'), but this does not impede meaning. To achieve a higher band, the student should incorporate more sophisticated collocations and less common lexical items to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary beyond the basic requirements of the topic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay demonstrates a good control of grammar with a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are error-free, and the meaning is always clear. There are occasional minor slips, such as the unnecessary capitalization of 'It' in the first paragraph and the incorrect use of an apostrophe in 'restaurant's'. However, these errors are infrequent and do not interfere with communication. The use of complex sentences, such as 'People do not have to deal with visa requirements because they do not need to prepare documents...', shows a good grasp of sentence construction.
