Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the upcoming years, people will change their preferences for travel destinations and choose to travel in their own county. I firmly agree that people should avoid international trips because of expensive flights and instability in few region due to the wars.

One of the major reasons to change travel preferences is that travelling is becoming a more expensive especially the international flights. This is because lots of countries started to charge carbon emission fees where surges are increasing. As a results, travellers may need to spend more money to receive same services. So, travellers may choose to travel within their own countries as it is budget-friendly option. For example, many countries such as Canada started to charge carbon emission fees which will be utilized for environmental causes. This changes have continuously increasing prices. Because of this people may go for a road trip within their own countries instead of spending money on international trips. This shows that high surges of international flights will change people's opinion about travel places.

Another major reason is that instability around the world as multiple wars are going on. People do not want to put themselves in dangerous situations which influence travel options. For example, there is a war going on from the last few years between Ukraine and Russia. This war will change travellers preference. They might not want to cross-border travel. Therefore, travellers will choose to visit places in their own countries and avoid international travel.

To conclude, people avoid to go on international trips and choose own countries' places for their travel itinerary. Expensive flights and instability in few countries due to wars are the main factors behind this change.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position and providing two main reasons: cost and global instability. The ideas are relevant, but the development is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the discussion on carbon emission fees in the second paragraph is a bit circular, and the explanation of how wars influence travel could be more nuanced. While the position is consistent throughout, the supporting arguments would benefit from more depth rather than just restating the main point. Overall, it meets the requirements of the task, but the development remains at a fairly basic level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'One of the major reasons', 'Another major reason', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of linking words is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as 'As a results' (should be 'As a result') and 'This changes have' (should be 'These changes have'). Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother to achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'instability' and 'itinerary', but there are also persistent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'own county' (instead of 'country'), 'surges are increasing' (referring to fees), and 'cross-border travel' used as a verb phrase. While the meaning is always clear, the range is limited and lacks the precision required for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('This changes have'), articles ('in few region'), and preposition usage ('war going on from the last few years'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are noticeable and occur throughout the text. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring consistent verb tense usage.
