IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, the trend of travelling has significantly increased. Some people think that people should travel in their own country, while others believe that abroad is the better option for travelling. While I agree with this view that people should choose their own country to travel, I totally agree that travelling abroad can give many experiences in life.
On the one hand, some people argue that people will choose their own country to travel so that they can give back to their country so that economy of the country will be improved. If people travel in the different provinces then they can contribute in their own country irrespective of giving money to other countries. For instance, there are several states to see in India so it is better to go on holiday in own country instead of travelling abroad. Thus, in the future, people will choose to go on holiday in their own country.
On the other hand, some people think, and I believe that travelling abroad people can get many experiences. In the future, people will choose international trips so that they can get exposures of distinct cultures and religions. For example, if people travel to different countries then people can get knowledge of different languages. Therefore, many people will choose to travel abroad for better exposure.
In conclusion, although giving back to the country is essential for country's economy, I believe that it is better to gain experiences in life which is possible by travelling abroad. It is important to get experience of different countries for mental peace.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both domestic and international travel. However, the position is somewhat contradictory. In the introduction, you state you agree with domestic travel, yet you also state you 'totally agree' that travelling abroad is better. This inconsistency makes your overall stance unclear. While you provide reasons for both sides, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument about the economy is mentioned but not fully explored, and the points about 'mental peace' in the conclusion appear as a new, unsupported idea. To improve, ensure your position is consistent throughout and provide more detailed, specific examples to support your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in your argument. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical. For example, the repetition of 'people' and 'travel' at the start of consecutive sentences makes the writing feel a bit repetitive. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider variety of linking words and improve referencing (e.g., using pronouns or synonyms) to connect ideas more fluidly rather than relying on simple transitions.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some relevant topic-related terms like 'economy', 'provinces', and 'international trips'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic vocabulary. Phrases like 'get exposures' and 'get knowledge' are slightly unnatural; 'gain exposure' or 'acquire knowledge' would be more precise. There is also some repetition of words like 'people' and 'travel'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and a broader range of vocabulary to express your ideas with more sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors. For example, 'I agree with this view that people should choose their own country to travel' is slightly awkward; 'I agree with the view that...' would be better. You also have issues with articles and prepositions, such as 'irrespective of giving money to other countries' and 'get exposures of distinct cultures'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of complex sentence structures.
