Student answer (Band 6.0)

Holidays are very essential for relaxation. The newer generation consider vacation as a very important part of their lifestyle. It is always confusing to decide the place for holiday. This essay will shed some light on benefits and drawbacks of holiday destination.

There are several factors which determines the holiday destination. Firstly, the factor I would like to highlight is financial condition. For instance, not everyone has financial freedom to plan a trip anywhere in the world. To cite an example, family or individuals have a budget for vacation cost and it can't be neglected. Secondly, visa and transit visa plays an important role for planning foreign trip. Travellers need to apply for tourist visa and ensure they carry valid passport. To illustrate, many citizen in India don't have travel visa and it becomes a big barrier to plan a vacation abroad. There are several other factors people prefer to travel within in the country instead of visiting abroad.

Travel is a hobby and interest for various young people. It becomes an important factor to visit foreign countries. For example, many youngster are travelling abroad and posting their vlogs on social media. It make them feels unique and give them a status symbol in the society. To add more, various Gen-Z or millennial want to reward their parents a foreign trip. The newer generation wants to ensure their parents enjoy and explore the world. To exemplify, parents visit to foreign countries is a gift from their children. It is a compensation for all the sacrifices parents faced while raising their child.

To conclude, holiday are very essential part of our busy routine life. It is very necessary we utilize the vacation period wisely and get mentally relaxed. In my opinion, choosing foreign countries for vacation is a better option. It feels you explore the world and gain knowledge about different cultures and people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing factors influencing holiday choices. However, the position is somewhat inconsistent. While the introduction suggests a balanced view, the body paragraphs focus more on the reasons for choosing domestic versus foreign travel without clearly arguing for or against the trend mentioned in the prompt. The conclusion explicitly states a preference for foreign travel, but this is not fully integrated into the preceding arguments. To reach a higher band, ensure your position is clearly stated in the introduction and consistently supported throughout the essay, rather than shifting focus between different factors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'To illustrate' are used to link ideas. However, the progression between paragraphs is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For instance, the shift from discussing financial barriers to the social status of travel in the third paragraph lacks a smooth connecting thought. Improving the use of referencing and more sophisticated linking phrases would enhance the flow and logical progression of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'compensation' and 'sacrifices', which are used appropriately. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'very essential' (redundant) and 'many citizen' (incorrect pluralization). The range is sufficient for the task but lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands. Focusing on collocations and more varied academic vocabulary would improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'factors which determines', 'visa... plays', 'many youngster are', 'It make them feels'). Punctuation is generally functional, but these recurring errors in basic grammar prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and pluralization, and aim to incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex sentences.
