IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
I believe in the future, people will choose to go on holiday in other countries than in their own country. This is because, people may be interested to explore various cultures. Therefore, I do not agree that people will choose their own country to travel.
On the one hand, some people believe that in the future, people will choose their own country to go on holiday. This is because, visiting their own country may help them understand more about their country's history. Additionally, travelling to own country requires less expenditure and can be reached earlier. For example, if an individual choose to explore his own country, they may discover something new that they were not aware of. Also, they may find some hidden gems such as old temples, old sculptures and lakes. As a result, people may understand more about their country and will contribute to the country's economy.
However, I believe that people in the future will choose other countries to explore. The reason for that is, tourism is getting famous among people and they would like to explore multiple cultures, languages and attires. For example, if an individual visits other country to travel, they may find some interesting things which are different in their countries such as religion, traditional wearing and foods. As a result, it increases knowledge of a person in terms of tourism and various countries.
To conclude, although visiting own country may save a huge amount of money and time, it may be a reason for the underdevelopment of the community. Therefore, visiting other countries makes an individual more confident and improves historical knowledge.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the idea that domestic tourism will dominate. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide reasons for both sides, the arguments regarding 'underdevelopment of the community' in the conclusion are not clearly linked to the previous paragraphs, making the final argument feel slightly disconnected. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph fully explores the implications of your points rather than just listing them. The position is consistent, but the depth of analysis could be improved by providing more specific examples rather than general statements about 'hidden gems' or 'different foods'.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'However', and 'To conclude' to signal transitions. However, some of the linking is slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition from discussing 'hidden gems' to 'contributing to the economy' is a bit abrupt. Referencing is generally clear, but ensure that pronouns like 'they' consistently refer back to the intended noun to avoid ambiguity.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'expenditure', 'underdevelopment', and 'traditional wearing'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For instance, 'tourism is getting famous' is not a natural collocation; 'tourism is becoming increasingly popular' would be more appropriate. Additionally, 'traditional wearing' should be 'traditional attire' or 'traditional clothing'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors. Common issues include article usage (e.g., 'visits other country' should be 'visits another country' or 'visits other countries') and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'if an individual choose' should be 'if an individual chooses'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some unnecessary commas, such as after 'The reason for that is,'. To improve, focus on consistent subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles.
