Student answer (Band 5.0)

Overseas vacations have become increasingly popular in modern society. However, some people think that individuals will prefer their own country for holidays and avoid to travel abroad in the future. I completely agree with this notion. People will choose their own country because of inflation and government encourage their citizens to choose local holiday destinations.

One of the significant reasons of choosing own country for destination is cost of traveling. Inflation is increasing at an alarming rate. Individuals are required to pay a subsequent amount of money to travel agencies, plane tickets, and immigration costs. They need to pay all these expenses in selected country's currency. For example, Indian pay huge money for traveling in America because dollar rate is very high. Therefore, individuals will travel in their own country because of the low cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which severely limits the development of ideas. While you state a clear position, the essay only provides one main supporting point regarding inflation and travel costs. The second point mentioned in the introduction—government encouragement—is not developed at all in the body paragraphs. Because the response is less than 60% of the required length, it fails to address the task fully, resulting in a low score for task achievement. To improve, you must expand on your arguments with more detailed examples and ensure you cover all parts of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay shows a basic attempt at logical organization. You use a clear introduction and one body paragraph. However, the lack of length prevents the development of a coherent structure. Cohesive devices are used sparingly (e.g., 'However', 'Therefore'), but the progression is interrupted by the premature ending of the essay. Paragraphing is present but insufficient due to the limited content. To improve, you should aim for a standard four-paragraph structure (introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion) to ensure a logical flow of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'inflation', 'alarming rate', and 'destinations', but there are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'government encourage their citizens' (should be 'encourages') and 'subsequent amount of money' (which is misused here; 'significant' or 'substantial' would be better). The range is limited by the short length of the text, preventing you from demonstrating a wider variety of vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'avoid to travel' (should be 'avoid traveling'), 'reasons of choosing' (should be 'reasons for choosing'), and 'Indian pay huge money' (should be 'Indians pay a large amount of money'). These errors are noticeable and occasionally affect the clarity of your points. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and the accurate use of gerunds after specific verbs.
