Student answer (Band 5.5)

Social media has made people more aware about their travelling options which has led them to explore not only local areas but also, international tourist destination for holidays. Hence, I completely disagree with statement that more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad.

The most significant reason for tourists going abroad for their vacations because they have exposure of social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram, etc. In future, travelers are more keen in celebrating their holiday vacations in foreign countries to post their pictures social media. In addition, several countries across the world have been promoting international tourism on a vast scale that is leading people to travel internationally. For instance, Turkey offers discounted hair transplant surgery to its tourists which surges its tourism industry.

Moreover, people will prefer to travel abroad on holidays because they want to experience uniqueness of culture and diversities across the globe. Hence, many European nations give work plus tourist visa to experience rich culture of the country. Most foreigners who travel to India want to experience spirituality and want to know how diverse is the country.

Overall, I believe that people are more willing to travel abroad for their holiday trips rather than celebrating in their own country. Travelers now have access to the technologies which lead them to explore new nations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the idea that domestic tourism will replace international travel. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which limits the depth of the arguments. While the ideas regarding social media influence and cultural curiosity are relevant, they are not fully developed. The example of Turkey's hair transplant industry is somewhat tangential and lacks a strong connection to the broader argument about holiday preferences. To improve, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and ensure you meet the word count to allow for a more comprehensive discussion of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central idea. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'Hence' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. The referencing is generally clear, but the progression of ideas could be smoother. For example, the transition between the influence of social media and the specific example of medical tourism in Turkey is not well-integrated. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will help you achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'international tourist destination', 'exposure', and 'diversities'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'celebrating their holiday vacations' (usually 'spending' or 'taking') and 'post their pictures social media' (missing 'on'). The phrase 'work plus tourist visa' is also slightly informal. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of less common lexical items, while ensuring they are used accurately in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('the statement', 'the social media'), incorrect preposition usage, and subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'the most significant reason... because they have'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, particularly article usage and sentence construction, and try to incorporate more varied complex structures with greater accuracy.
