Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people believe that in future a significant number of people will choose to go on holiday in their own country, because it will help them learn more about their country and they will contribute to the overall growth of their country. Although visiting your own country improves residents knowledge, I believe in the future, people may like to explore more about other countries.

To begin with, some people believe that in the future, travelers will choose their own country to visit, because they would like to understand more about their history and sacrifices. People may try to visit every part of their own country in their holidays. Moreover, visiting your own country saves a huge amount of money and time, which results in more exploration in less expenditure. In addition, whatever amount people will spend in terms of travelling, hotel booking and in restaurants, they will contribute to their country's economy. As a result, country's overall economy me be improved.

However, I personally believe that an increased number of people will choose abroad to go on holiday. This is largely because, people are keen to visit random places that they see on social media. For example, if an individual sees a random post on tourism, they may get influenced and try to explore that place by visiting there. Moreover, it helps an individual to explore any random place in terms of language, food and culture. As a result, it helps improving a person's overall geographical knowledge.

In conclusion, despite that fact that visiting their own country will contribute to the overall country's growth, visiting other countries gives more exposure to the travelers. They explore various parts of the world and experience diversity of the nature, in terms of weather, language, culture and clothing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments for both domestic and international tourism are relevant and supported with examples, such as the influence of social media on travel choices. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed; for instance, the point about 'sacrifices' in the second paragraph lacks specific context or clarity. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explained with more depth. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the question posed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'However' are used to guide the reader through the argument. While the progression is generally clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. Referencing is mostly accurate, though the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly rather than relying on standard list-like transitions.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task and allows the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'expenditure', 'geographical knowledge', and 'diversity'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'explore more about other countries' (better: 'explore other countries') and 'visiting their own country improves residents knowledge' (missing apostrophe). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'random places'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'country's overall economy me be improved' (modal error) and 'despite that fact that' (preposition/conjunction confusion). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors with articles and possessives. The majority of sentences are understandable, but the frequency of these small errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy would be beneficial.
