IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is widely believed that in future people will prefer to visit their own country in vacations rather than travelling abroad. I completely agree with this view due to the rising costs of international trips and better experience in one's own country.
First of all, people are familiar with the language of native people. It helps them to interact better with locals and have a far more enjoyable experience due to easier communicatiom. Also if unexpectedly any problem arises native people can easily understand it and offer you help which is not possible in a foreign country. In addition going to another country demands more expenditure and not everyone can afford it. Furthermore people of a country know the traditions and culture of each other that allows them to engage well with each other. Visiting one's own country can promote tourism and career opportunities especially for the people who live much far away from cities.
On the other visiting a foreign country is an enjoyable experience in itself but it has a lot of issues associated with it.Due to the difference of economy,it can be costly. They need to apply for visa and wait for its approval which is another time-taking as well as a much costly process. In addition if we get there we have problems with communication if we do not know their language. People may have difficulty in communicating even the basic things like booking a hotel or asking for a taxi.
In conclusion, although visiting a foreign country can be a memorable experience in itself but I am of the opinon that visiting one's own country can be a far more convenient and budget friendly experience.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on cost, language barriers, and cultural familiarity. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about 'career opportunities' in the first body paragraph is mentioned but not explained or linked back to the main argument effectively. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your supporting points with more specific examples or deeper analysis rather than listing several points briefly. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'In addition', and 'On the other hand' to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, there are minor issues with punctuation and spacing, such as missing spaces after periods (e.g., 'native people. It helps'), which disrupts the flow of the text. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring consistent paragraph structure will help improve the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'expenditure', 'visa', and 'approval'. However, the range is somewhat limited and there is some repetition of basic words like 'people' and 'experience'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations. For example, instead of 'better experience', you could use 'a more seamless travel experience'. There are also minor word-choice errors, such as 'much far away', which should be 'much further away'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, 'if unexpectedly any problem arises' is slightly awkward, and there are several missing spaces after full stops. You also have some minor errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'in future' instead of 'in the future'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score. Focus on proofreading for basic punctuation and article usage.
