Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often predicted that domestic tourism will become more popular in the future, with people choosing to explore their own countries instead of travelling overseas. I partly agree with this view, as domestic holidays offer considerable financial and practical benefits, however, international travel will continue to appeal to those seeking unfamiliar cultures and experiences.

One reason why domestic tourism may grow its greater affordability and convenience. Travelling within one's own country elminates expenses such as international flights, visas and currency exchange, while shorter journeys can also reduce travel time. In addition, domestic tourists are generally familiar with the language, customs and transportation systems, making their trips less stressful. For instance, India has an enormous variety of destinantions, from the beaches of Goa to the Himalayan regions, meaning that people can experience very different landscapes without leaving the country.

Nevetheless, I believe international tourism will remain highly attractive. Travelling abroad provides oppurtutnities to experience different cultures, cuisines, and lifestyles firsthand. Such experiences can broaden people's perspectives and encourage greater cultural understanding. Futhermore, the growing availability of budget airlines, online accommodation platforms and flexible travel packages is making overseas holidays increasingly accessible to ordinary travellers.

In conclusion, although the lower cost and convenience of domestic tourism may encourage more people to holiday within their own countries, I disagree that international travel will decline. Both forms of tourisms are likely to coexist, with people's choices depending on budgets and the type of experience they seek.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both domestic and international tourism, maintaining a clear position throughout. However, the essay falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement (243 words), which negatively impacts the development of ideas. While the arguments regarding affordability and cultural exposure are relevant and well-supported with examples like India, the conclusion is somewhat brief. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your supporting points to ensure a more comprehensive exploration of the topic, which would also naturally help you meet the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Nevertheless', and 'Furthermore' are used effectively to guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a central theme. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the relationship between the two sides of the argument is clearly established. The structure is sound, and the flow of information is easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, including terms like 'domestic tourism', 'unfamiliar cultures', and 'firsthand'. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'elminates' (eliminates), 'destinantions' (destinations), 'oppurtutnities' (opportunities), and 'Futhermore' (Furthermore). While these do not impede communication, they are noticeable. To improve, focus on proofreading for these small slips. The use of collocations is generally natural, and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your ideas with precision and clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most sentences are clear and grammatically accurate. There is a minor error in the second paragraph: 'One reason why domestic tourism may grow its greater affordability...' is missing a verb (e.g., 'is its greater affordability'). Despite this, your control over grammar is generally strong, and punctuation is used correctly. The range of structures is sufficient for the task, and errors are infrequent and do not cause any difficulty for the reader.
