IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 7.5)
It is often predicted that domestic tourism will become more popular in the future, with more people choosing to take holidays in their own country rather than travelling overseas. I agree with this view because domestic holidays are generally more affordable and convenient than international trips.
The main reason why domestic holidays are likely to become more popular is their lower cost. Travelling abroad often involves expensive flights, accommodation, travel insurance and visa fees, whereas travelling within one’s own country can significantly reduce these expenses. For example, an Indian family travelling to a nearby hill station by car or train may spend far less than they would on an overseas holiday, particularly when flights and visa costs are included. Furthermore, domestic travellers are less likely to face unexpected expenses related to currency exchange or international transportation. As the cost of living continues to increase, many families may therefore prefer a more cost-effective holiday option.
Another important factor is convenience. Domestic travellers do not usually need to apply for visas, exchange currencies or deal with lengthy international flights. They can also communicate easily and are likely to be familiar with the local culture, food and customs. For instance, families with young children may prefer travelling to destinations within their own country because they can reach them by car or train and avoid the stress associated with international travel. In addition, people can often travel more frequently because domestic trips require less planning and preparation.
In conclusion, I agree that domestic tourism is likely to become more popular in the future. Lower costs, fewer travel complications and greater convenience are major reasons why people may prefer exploring their own country rather than travelling abroad. However, international tourism will still remain attractive to those seeking unfamiliar cultures and experiences.

The response is well-structured and directly answers the question posed in the task instructions.

The referencing is clear throughout, and the flow of information is natural, making the text easy to follow for the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. You use topic-specific terms such as 'domestic tourism', 'cost-effective', 'visa fees', and 'currency exchange' appropriately. The vocabulary is natural and fits the context well. While the range is solid, incorporating a few more sophisticated or less common collocations could elevate the score further. However, the current usage is accurate and there are no errors that impede communication or cause confusion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
The essay displays a good variety of complex sentence structures, such as the use of conditional and relative clauses (e.g., '...whereas travelling within one’s own country can significantly reduce these expenses'). The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation and grammar is strong. There are no significant errors that hinder the reader's understanding. The grammatical accuracy is consistent throughout the piece, reflecting a high level of proficiency.
