IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
More than half of individuals often face a dilemma over whether to spend their domestic holidays in their own nation or travel foreign in the future. I strongly agree with this view because domestic holidays are affordable than international trips.
To commence with, in the modern era people has been increasingly become more aware about culture and expenses, so they try to preserve their own culture, which may have positively effects on people's lives. In other words, domestic holidays are usually cheaper. Not only do people save money but it is also more convenient. Rarely have people need visa applications, immigration procedure or language barriers. For instance, a family can travel by car or train to nearby tourist destination instead of paying for expensive international flights.
Moreover, another factor is that development of local tourism. To elaborate it, more domestic tourists can support local hotels, restaurants, shops and tourist attractions. This creates employment and increases local businesses' income. Therefore, government may also invest more in tourist infrastructure. For example, travelling domestically allows them to acquire a knowledge about history, culture, traditions and natural beauty.
Conversely, International travel will still remain popular because people want to experience different cultures. Foreign countries offer unique landscapes, lifestyles and attractions. Travelling abroad can provide a sense of adventure and personal growth.
To conclude, I largely agree that more people will choose domestic holidays in the future because they are generally more affordable and convenient, although international travel will remain attractive to those seeking new cultural experiences.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding affordability and economic benefits are relevant and well-supported. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief; for instance, the point about 'preserving culture' is mentioned but not fully explained in the context of domestic tourism. While the counter-argument is acknowledged, it is quite short. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your main points with more depth and provide more detailed examples to fully explore the implications of your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'Conversely' to signal transitions between ideas. However, some of the linking is slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as in the sentence 'For example, travelling domestically allows them to acquire...', where 'them' lacks a clear antecedent. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'dilemma', 'infrastructure', and 'personal growth'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'travel foreign' (should be 'travel abroad') and 'positively effects' (should be 'positive effects'). Additionally, 'acquire a knowledge' is slightly unnatural; 'gain knowledge' would be more idiomatic. While you attempt to use less common vocabulary, these minor errors prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on collocations will help improve your precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'domestic holidays are affordable than' (should be 'more affordable than'), 'people has been increasingly become' (should be 'people have increasingly become'), and 'Rarely have people need' (should be 'Rarely do people need'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall accuracy score. To improve, ensure you check for subject-verb agreement and correct comparative structures.
