In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
There is an argument that in the future people would choose their own country as a holiday destination rather than going abroad. I partially agree with this argument.
People nowadays are choosy in terms of their holiday places. Many people believe that traveling the country they are living in is more reliable and convenient because they do not need to spend extra money on booking tickets for flights or hotels which are quite expensive these days. Moreover, people think that choosing their own country for holiday also create more business opportunities which would not only benefit the local community but also in overall development of the nation. For example, more and more people would come to enjoy holiday with their families on certain place would attract more tourists and their spendings would create more employment for local people.
On the other hand, some individuals think it is better to travel foreign country as a holiday destination. People nowadays love to explore new places around the world and get to know about different culture and traditions. travelling in the same country would feel boring for some people. Furthermore, travelling abroad is also seen as a symbol of luxury and high status in the society. Therefore, many people go to foreign countries for holidays which they think would increase their reputation. For instance, nowadays there is a trend on social media to post photos of themselves in branded and expensive things like clothing, bags, cars, etc. some people also post photos of them enjoying in a luxurious place to show their high standards. However, I believe people should travel foreign countries to enjoy better time and explore different aspects of the country rather than to just post pictures on social media.
In conclusion, although it is beneficial for people to travel in their own nation as it creates employment opportunities and quite convenient, people should explore new places to learn about different types of traditions and cultures.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that is maintained throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as the economic benefits of domestic tourism and the social status associated with international travel. However, some arguments are slightly under-developed; for instance, the link between social media and the desire to travel abroad could be more tightly connected to the prompt's core question. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, though it could have been more explicit in restating the final stance. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two sides of the argument. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', 'Furthermore', and 'Therefore' are used to guide the reader through the text. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences could be linked more fluidly to improve the overall progression of ideas. The structure is sufficient to ensure the reader follows the argument without difficulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'holiday destination', 'local community', and 'economic development'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional inaccuracies in word choice or collocation, such as 'enjoy holiday with their families on certain place' (should be 'in a certain place') and 'travel foreign country' (should be 'travel to a foreign country'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a reasonable level of control over grammar, though several errors persist. Examples include 'travel foreign country' (missing preposition), 'in overall development' (should be 'the overall development'), and 'enjoying in a luxurious place' (incorrect verb pattern). Punctuation is generally correct, but there are minor slips in article usage and prepositional phrases. These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more consistent control over complex structures to reach a higher band.
