Student answer (Band 5.0)

The question whether in future, people will either decide to go on the vacation in their native country or prefer to go foreign is a topic of discussion. I agree with the first statement and I will explain my point in following paragraphs.

To commence with, the development done by our society is not hidden from anyone and this development does have some drawbacks. To explain, inflation is one of the major side effects of development. It can be overwhelming to spend money on travelling abroad. For example,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, reaching only 88 words. Consequently, the task is not fully addressed, and the ideas are left severely underdeveloped. While you state a clear position in the introduction, the essay stops abruptly after the first paragraph, failing to provide the necessary supporting arguments or a conclusion. To improve, you must ensure you write at least 250 words by fully expanding on your main points with detailed explanations and relevant examples. Currently, the response is too brief to demonstrate the ability to develop a coherent argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay shows a basic attempt at paragraphing and uses a transition phrase ('To commence with') to start the first body paragraph. However, because the text is so short, it is impossible to assess the overall logical progression or the effective use of cohesive devices throughout a full essay. The ideas are not sufficiently linked because the text ends mid-sentence. To improve, focus on structuring your essay with a clear introduction, at least two well-developed body paragraphs, and a conclusion, ensuring that each sentence flows logically into the next using a variety of linking words.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally appropriate for the topic, such as 'inflation' and 'overwhelming', but the range is limited due to the brevity of the response. There are no significant errors in word choice, but the lack of length prevents you from demonstrating a wider range of vocabulary or more sophisticated collocations. To achieve a higher band, aim to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to tourism, economics, and travel trends, and try to use less common lexical items to express your ideas with more precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The grammar is generally accurate in the sentences provided, with no major errors that impede communication. You have used a mix of simple and complex structures, such as the introductory clause 'To commence with, the development done by our society...'. However, the limited length restricts the assessment of your ability to maintain grammatical control over a longer piece of writing. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of complex sentence structures, such as conditional sentences or relative clauses, while maintaining the high level of accuracy shown in your current writing.
