Student answer (Band 7.0)

In the future, more people will like to travel domestically in holiday rather then going overseas. I totally agree with this statement, because going abroad for travelling is not a cup of tea for everyone as it’s extremely expensive and it requires a lot of effort.

One important reason is the increasing cost of travelling. International holidays usually involve expensive flights, accommodation, food and other living expenses. However travelling in same country can be considered less costly as people can use their own car to go from one place to another or take trains. For example , a family living in Canada can go on a road trip to Montréal or Banff without paying for expensive flights. Hence , as living costs are rising continuously, many families may consider domestic holidays more affordable than international holidays.

Moreover, the other reason of this can be convenience. As travelling abroad often requires passports, visas, currency exchange and travel insurance. There can be also a language barrier between countries, that can cause travel complications. Whereas, in their own countries they are familiar with language, culture, and costumes. In addition, modern transportation and online services are making it easier for people to discover hidden gems or new places.

To conclusion, I agree that a growing number of people will choose domestic holidays in the future because they are generally cheaper, easier and more convenient. Nevertheless, international travel will continue to have an important place in the tourism industry because of the unique cultural experiences it provides.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas regarding cost and convenience are relevant and supported with examples, such as the Canadian family road trip. The development is logical, although the explanation of 'modern transportation' could be more specific to fully reach the higher bands. The conclusion effectively summarises the argument while acknowledging the counter-perspective, which adds balance to the response. Overall, the task is well-addressed with a clear, consistent viewpoint.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organised with a clear progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two main arguments. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'In addition' are used to link sentences and paragraphs, though some transitions are slightly mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, and the flow of the argument is easy to follow. To improve, the student could vary the cohesive devices further to avoid repetitive structures and ensure a more natural, sophisticated flow between ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is sufficient for the task, allowing for clear communication. The student uses some topic-specific vocabulary like 'domestic holidays', 'international travel', and 'language barrier'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'costumes' instead of 'customs' and 'in holiday' instead of 'on holiday'. The use of the idiom 'not a cup of tea' is a good attempt at natural expression, though it is slightly informal for an academic-style essay. Expanding the range of less common lexical items would help elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'travelling in same country' (missing article) and 'the other reason of this' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is generally accurate, though there are occasional spacing issues before commas (e.g., 'For example ,'). The student shows a good grasp of basic grammar, but more consistent control over complex structures and articles is needed to reach a higher band. The majority of the sentences are understandable despite these minor errors.
