Student answer (Band 6.5)

In today’s era, the trend of travelling has escalated to a great extent. People believe that in future, the vast number of population will opt their own country for a holiday trip instead of foreign countries. However, I completely agree with this assertion. In this essay, the optimistic aspects of this will be discussed.

To begin with, the most significant factor to choose your destination for holiday trip is the budget the person can afford. As we know about the rapid rise in inflation , it would be very difficult for middle class society to afford an abroad trip as it would include flight charges, expensive hotels and other travel expenses. Whereas choosing your own country as your holiday trip is quite affordable. To epitomise, if a person residing in India decides to go to Goa instead of any foreign beach like Thailand ,it would be less costly for him as he need not to pay for flight tickets and even the hotels in India are pretty cheap as compared to Thailand.

Adding to this,I believe that today’s generation is much more aware about the effect of tourism on the GDP of country . Instead of spending money on lavish foreign trips, people are deciding to explore their own country which can also contribute in boosting the GDP of their country.

For example, as the tourism in Jammu and Kashmir has risen in recent years, it also helped in the overall development of the state.

To conclude, I believe the love of people about their own country is rising day by day which leads to more holiday trips in their own country instead of unaffordable foreign trips.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The arguments regarding economic constraints and the positive impact on national GDP are relevant and logically developed. However, the essay could be improved by providing more depth in the second body paragraph; while the example of Jammu and Kashmir is relevant, the link between individual holiday choices and national GDP could be explained with more nuance to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarises the main points, though it introduces a slightly new idea about 'love of country' that was not fully explored in the body paragraphs. Overall, the task is well-addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Whereas', 'Adding to this', and 'To conclude' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. However, there are minor issues with referencing and flow; for instance, the transition between the economic argument and the GDP argument could be smoother. The use of cohesive devices is generally accurate, though occasionally slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is clear throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language such as 'escalated to a great extent', 'assertion', and 'epitomise'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'opt their own country' (should be 'opt for') and 'vast number of population' (should be 'vast majority of the population'). While the range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, the use of less common items is somewhat limited and occasionally imprecise. The vocabulary is functional but lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a good attempt at using complex sentences, though some contain errors, such as 'as he need not to pay' (should be 'as he does not need to pay'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some spacing errors before commas (e.g., 'inflation ,'). While there are frequent error-free sentences, the grammatical control is not consistent enough for a higher band. The errors present do not impede communication, but they are noticeable and occur with enough frequency to limit the score.
