Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt but fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you state your position clearly in the introduction, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding financial budgeting is mentioned but not fully explored with specific examples. The discussion of the 'pros and cons' of domestic versus international travel is repetitive and lacks depth. To improve, ensure you expand on your points with concrete examples and ensure the essay meets the length requirement to allow for full development of your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay has a basic structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and repetitive use of transition words like 'However'. The paragraphing is present, but the internal cohesion is weak; for example, the transition between the benefits of domestic travel and the drawbacks of not traveling abroad is disjointed. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow your train of thought. Using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would improve the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. There are several instances of unnatural word choices, such as 'upcoming life' instead of 'the future', 'visit to foreign' instead of 'travel abroad', and 'abort' instead of 'abroad'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of your message. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more academic vocabulary. Avoid repeating basic words and try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms to express your ideas more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('a numerous people are'), incorrect verb forms ('do not spent'), and awkward sentence construction ('i am agree with this statement'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is usually understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the text from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering basic sentence patterns and proofreading for common errors like tense consistency and article usage.
