IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people think that the trend of travelling to international countries is going to decrease, or that people will start going to visit their local countries' tourist spots. However, I believe that going abroad for vacation will rise in the near future. According to me, most of the individuals will prefer to travel to new countries to enjoy their holidays. The main reason behind this is globalization and social media platforms. Due to social media apps such as Instagram and Snapchat, people are able to watch the more tourist spots in foreign countries because many influencers post their photos and videos from their trips. Moreover, especially companies are promoting their cities and countries through the internet, using famous celebrities who have great influence on the minds of common people. This marketing strategy is raising expectations and excitement to visit new places. These days, it has become so easy and accessible to travel to any new country because people can apply for their visa by sitting at home with the help of the internet through an online website on their laptop. As a result, they are saving the money that they would need to give to an immigration agent. Moreover, airplane tickets are also quite easy and affordable to buy due to the offers and points cards. Furthermore, credit cards and loans are provided by the bank if a person wants to travel and enjoy their vacation, so that they can relax their body and mind for the upcoming tasks at work. In conclusion, in my opinion, more international trips will be planned by individuals due to influencers, marketing, and special offers.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position that international travel will increase. The ideas are relevant, focusing on the influence of social media and the increased accessibility of travel. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you mention social media and ease of booking, the arguments could be more thoroughly extended with specific examples or deeper analysis of why these factors outweigh the potential benefits of domestic tourism. The response is consistent in its stance, but it lacks a counter-argument or a more nuanced discussion of why domestic travel might be less appealing, which would have strengthened the overall task response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'As a result' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the start of the second paragraph, 'These days, it has become so easy...', could be better linked to the previous paragraph to improve the flow of the argument. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is generally clear, though the connection between the influence of social media and the financial ease of travel could be more tightly integrated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'globalization', 'influencers', and 'accessible'. There are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'local countries' tourist spots' (which should be 'domestic tourist destinations') and 'relax their body and mind'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. You rely on some common collocations, and there is room to incorporate more academic or topic-specific vocabulary related to tourism and economic trends to enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You show control over basic grammar, but there are several minor errors and awkward phrasings. For example, 'According to me' is not standard academic English; 'In my opinion' or 'I believe' is preferred. You also have some issues with article usage and word order, such as 'watch the more tourist spots'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on refining complex sentence structures and ensuring subject-verb agreement and article consistency throughout your writing.
