IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Many people will choose to travel within country during holidays rather than going abroad. I do agree with the statement because of several reasons such as improving local tourism and economy and enjoying traditions followed within different regions of the country.
First of all, visiting local destinations gives a boost in local economy because the money would flow in the region rather than going out of the country. Also local tourism is empowered and makes places popular for others to visit. For instance, visiting local tourist attractions and posting them on social media attracts more people from around the globe. Other than that, many people prefer exploring same culture and traditions followed in different areas of the country, such as a North Indian person visiting South India during any popular festival helps in experiencing same festival with unfamiliar traditions.
Secondly, avoiding abroad destinations releases the immigration pressure especially in case of developed countries, where rules might get change fast and stricter rules makes it difficult for entering the country. Moreover, the developed countries have higher currency conversion rates which might cause a financial hurdle to plan such abroad trips. Another reason to avoid foregin places is safegurading from cultural differences. For instance, visiting a foreign land might cause mindset and culture differences which might not be easy for everyone to adapt very quickly and might create problems while travelling.
In conclusion, the trend to explore local destinations will be increased in future due to above mentioned reasons. And skip the risk of getting stuck in immigration processes while travelling abroad.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The ideas, such as economic benefits and the avoidance of immigration hurdles, are relevant and logically developed. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the argument regarding 'safeguarding from cultural differences' is a bit vague and could have been expanded with more specific examples to reach a higher band. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task well, providing a clear argument that is supported by personal knowledge and examples, such as the reference to North and South Indian cultural experiences.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the argument. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the phrase 'the trend... will be increased', which could be phrased more naturally. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct ideas, ensuring that the progression of the argument remains clear and easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning with some flexibility. You have used some topic-specific terms like 'immigration pressure', 'currency conversion rates', and 'tourist attractions'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'visiting same culture' (should be 'experiencing the same culture') and 'rules might get change' (should be 'rules might change'). Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'foregin' and 'safegurading'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of academic vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' missing before 'country'), verb forms ('rules might get change'), and sentence construction ('a North Indian person visiting South India... helps in experiencing' is a slightly awkward structure). Some sentences are a bit clunky, which impacts the overall flow. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as these errors occur frequently throughout the text and prevent the essay from reaching a higher band.
