Student answer (Band 7.0)

In the future, people might choose to travel in their own country instead of travelling abroad. I disagree with that thought as I think that it is not an either-or situation, rather it will be both as both the options have their advantages and disadvantages.

Firstly, I would like to start with the the advantages of travelling your own country. Travellers don't have to get a visa, exchange currency and they generally know the language. This removes a lot of stress from travellers' mind as the whole process of getting a visa is quite cumbersome. There is also a lot of ambiguity involved in getting the visa and it can disrupt your travel plans, if you face any issues while getting the visa. Language is another aspect as there are a lot of people who hesitate to go to other countries because they don't know the language. For example, a lot of Indians do not like to go to the west because they are not well versed in English and they instead prefer to travel within India to avoid facing this challenge.

While there are a lot of advantages of travelling your own country, but travelling to another country can be beneficial and satisfying as well. People get to experience a different culture altogether, which can really broaden one's mindset. They also get a chance of trying out different cuisines, which can be an appealing factor for a lot of tourists. Travelling to other countries is also a matter of pride for a lot of people and they like to boast about it on social media, which is another reason that people will still continue to travel abroad.

In conclusion, there are both pros and cons of travelling abroad vs travelling your own country and it does not seem to be changing soon in the future. In my opinion, travelling will further increase in future and people will continue to travel both, their own country and foriegn countries around the world.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The candidate addresses the prompt effectively by taking a clear, nuanced position that the future will involve a continuation of both domestic and international travel rather than an exclusive shift to one. The response covers all parts of the task by discussing the benefits of domestic travel, such as ease of logistics and language familiarity, while also acknowledging the cultural and personal motivations for visiting foreign countries. The ideas are extended and supported with relevant explanations and examples, such as Indian tourists preferring domestic trips to avoid language barriers, demonstrating a solid engagement with the topic in line with Band 7 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The response is divided into an introduction, two distinct body paragraphs covering contrasting viewpoints, and a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'Firstly', 'While there are', and 'In conclusion', guiding the reader smoothly through the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes, though referencing and cohesive links can occasionally feel slightly formulaic, aligning the text comfortably with a Band 7 level.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The candidate demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary sufficient for the task, successfully attempting less common items and phrasing such as 'cumbersome', 'ambiguity', and 'broaden one's mindset'. However, there are minor lexical inaccuracies, such as the prepositions in 'travelling your own country' (instead of 'within' or 'in') and the spelling typo 'foriegn'. Despite these occasional lapses, the vocabulary choice is clear and does not impede communication, matching the Band 6 descriptor criteria well.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The essay displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over relative clauses and conditional structures. The majority of sentences are clear and grammatically sound. There are, however, a few minor mechanical and grammatical errors, such as the double article in 'the the advantages' and minor prepositional omissions. Because these errors are infrequent and do not impede the overall flow or comprehension of the text, the response meets the criteria for Band 7.
