IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In upcoming years, people will prefer to spend their holidays on the national level travelling rather than travel to the international countries. I completely disagree with this view because traveling to abroad give an opportunity to explore new language, culture, and spiritual values.
Traveling to different country offers a chance to travelers to meet new people, learn their language, and their way of living. Every nation have own national language, we can become multilingual by learning that new language. Moreover, cost may vary in comparison of other country. Every country have own currency exchange rate that directly impact the expenses of traveler. If travel to other country is cheaper than local travel then person will definitely prefer to go abroad.
Furthermore, every country is renowned for their own famous places that attract tourist. For instance, Ontario is well-known for Niagara Falls. It is the attraction point for many travelers. The beauty of one place can not be replaced with other place. Additionally, some individuals have desire to explore the world, distance do not matter to them. They do not hesitate to reach a places where they will reach after spending several days. To illustrate, It is a 24 hours flight to reach Canada from India but tourists still prefer to spend their time on flight to travel there.
To conclude, I strongly disagree that international traveling would be reduced in the future because of people obsession to explore world and less cost. The people passion to see the world can not be decreased, although they can travel domestically.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student presents a clear position throughout the response, disagreeing with the prompt and arguing that international travel will remain popular. The ideas are generally relevant, such as the desire to explore new cultures, languages, and famous landmarks. However, some arguments are under-developed or repetitive. For instance, the discussion on currency exchange rates and costs in the second paragraph is somewhat simplistic and lacks specific extension. In the third paragraph, the example of Ontario and Niagara Falls is provided, but it is actually a domestic destination rather than an international one, which slightly weakens the support for the point about international travel. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, and a clear position is maintained, corresponding to a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response features an overall coherent arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate main ideas, such as language and cultural exploration in the second paragraph and famous places in the third. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. The use of cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Additionally' feels somewhat forced and formulaic. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally unclear, and transitions between sentences lack seamless flow. While the logical organisation is evident and makes the text easy to follow overall, the mechanical nature of the cohesive ties limits the score to Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'multilingual', 'obsessed' (used as 'obsession'), and 'renowned'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'travelling to the international countries' instead of 'foreign countries', 'Every nation have own national language', and 'It is the attraction point'. Spelling and word formation are generally acceptable, but inaccuracies in phrasing sometimes make the text sound unnatural. Because the vocabulary range is adequate to convey meaning despite the noticeable errors, this fits the Band 6.0 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional structures ('If travel to other country is cheaper...') and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Every nation have', 'distance do not matter'), articles ('travel to other country', 'reach a places'), and prepositions ('travelling to the international countries'). Despite these persistent errors, communication is rarely impeded, and the basic meaning remains clear. This balance of mixed structures and frequent local errors aligns closely with the Band 6.0 criteria for grammar.
