Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the coming years, people would like to spend their vacation in their own country rather than travelling internationally. I agree with the statement because the prices of goods and services are skyrocketing which creates financial problem while travelling abroad.

As prices are increasing over time, it creates negative impact on travelling. The main reason is rising prices of goods and services such as fuel, which is one of the main component to run the transport system. Moreover, it negatively effect the ticket prices. As a result, instead of buying tickets to travel abroad for a vacation people spend their luxury time with their family at nearby locations, for example five star hotels.

Technology is the another reason which push humans towards their own country. In the past times, people had curiosity to travel abroad to broaden their horizon, however, in future individuals get full access to knowledge through internet.

Furthermore, most of the people spend their vacation in abroads to buy expensive products in another country which costs more in their own country, for instance, gold is cheaper in Dubai in comparison with India. Nevertheless, governments are trying to fix the flexible overseas prices. If the prices will be the same in another countries, people will buy such products from their home country and it helps them to save travelling cost.

To conclude, in the future, many individuals will choose to stay in their home country during holidays instead of moving abroad. Therefore, I totally agree with the notion because inflation, product availabily and technology are some of the reasons which affect travelling in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt directly, taking a clear stance that people will choose to holiday domestically in the future due to rising costs, technological access, and pricing disparities. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and occasionally slips into minor generalisations or tangents, such as the specific example of gold prices in Dubai versus India. While the main ideas relating to inflation and fuel prices are relevant and supported with basic examples like five-star hotels, the arguments lack deeper elaboration to reach a fully developed level. Consequently, the response aligns best with the Band 6 descriptors, as it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, though some areas remain slightly under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised adequately, with each body paragraph focusing on a distinct sub-theme, such as financial problems, technology, and product availability. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, including phrases like 'Moreover,' 'As a result,' and 'Furthermore.' However, referencing and transitions are at times slightly mechanical or abrupt, and referencing is not always entirely clear, such as the pronoun use in 'it helps them to save travelling cost.' Organisation and progression are present, but the overall flow lacks the flexibility required for a higher band. This performance reflects the characteristics of Band 6, where the text is coherent overall with some faulty or mechanical cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'skyrocketing,' 'inflation,' 'broaden their horizon,' and 'disparities.' There are, however, noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations that surface throughout the text, including phrases like 'luxury time,' 'fuel, which is one of the main component,' 'negatively effect,' 'Technology is the another reason,' and 'vacation in abroads.' Spelling errors such as 'availabily' also occur. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score. The vocabulary used is sufficient for the writer to communicate their message clearly, placing the response firmly at Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writing exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with attempts at conditional structures and relative clauses, such as 'If the prices will be the same in another countries...' and 'people would like to spend their vacation...'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors in tense usage, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, including 'people would like' instead of 'will likely want,' 'is the another reason which push' instead of 'pushes,' and the flawed conditional form 'If the prices will be the same.' Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the frequency of grammatical errors means that error-free sentences are not in the majority. These issues align the essay with the Band 6 descriptor, where a mix of structures is used alongside some persistent errors that rarely impede overall understanding.
