Student answer (Band 6.0)

Undoubtedly, travelling culture has boosted to new heights as compare to yesteryears. It is believed that in near future, travelling for many people will become limited to their own country rather than going abroad for exploring places. However, I disagree upto large extent with this notion which will be discussed with the reasons in this essay along with a logical conclusion.

To commence with, the travelling industry has continue to grow with the time because of the great investment done by the countries in travel and tourism departments. It helps to boost the economy of the country by attracting the foreigners to visit the place by promoting their cultures and traditions. For example, South Korea have half of its economy supported by the tourism which have flourished in past few years. Moreover, the youngsters are tremendously influenced by social media. They are fond of going to new places and post about their experiences to share it to their friends and social community. Hence, they keep on exploring to share their amazing adventures and trips online.

However, some people can shift towards the idea of travelling in their own country. To justify it, this whole experience can be difficult for some individuals to afford it beause of inflation. The prices are drastically increasing for the hotels and transport which can be out of budget for few people. For instance, the plane ticket prices for few of the countries are raised after the covid which have made difficult for people to travel more often.

In conclusion, although for some people travelling may be limited to their own country due to inflation yet I disagree upto large extent with this notion because of growing investment in tourism and of social media which are pavying the way for growth of tourism.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear position and supporting it with relevant arguments. You have successfully outlined why people might choose to holiday locally, such as inflation and rising travel costs, while countering this with arguments about the growing tourism industry and the influence of social media. Your position is maintained throughout the essay. However, some arguments, such as the example of South Korea, could have been more fully explained to deepen the analysis. The ideas are relevant and extend adequately across the body paragraphs, fulfilling the criteria for a Band 6.5 or solid Band 6 performance, matching the descriptor for addressing all parts with relevant ideas, though some areas remain slightly underdeveloped.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

Your essay demonstrates a clear overall progression with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You have utilized cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'However' to guide the reader through your arguments. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally faulty or mechanical, as seen in phrases like 'upto large extent' and awkward transitional flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate your main ideas, with distinct sections for the opposing view and your own stance. To improve further, ensure that cohesive devices are used more flexibly and naturally without repetitive structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have attempted a range of vocabulary appropriate for the task, including terms like 'economy', 'inflation', 'influence', and 'adventure'. There are, however, several word-choice and collocation errors throughout the essay. For example, 'travelling culture has boosted' is unnatural, and words like 'beause' (spelling), 'pavying' (spelling), and grammatical miscollocations such as 'disagree upto large extent' detract from precision. Despite these slips, your vocabulary is adequate for the task and communication is not impeded. You demonstrate an attempt to use less common vocabulary, but occasional inaccuracies keep this at a Band 6 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in your grammatical structures. For instance, you successfully employ subordinate clauses like 'although for some people travelling may be limited...'. However, there are frequent minor errors in grammar, articles, and prepositions throughout the text, such as 'as compare to yesteryears', 'have continue to grow', 'South Korea have half of its economy', and 'prices for few of the countries are raised after the covid'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they occur regularly enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but prepositional control needs tightening.
