Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the trend of staying within one's home country for holidays and the counter-view of traveling abroad. The candidate takes a clear partial position in the introduction, stating that they agree with both perspectives to a certain extent. Ideas are presented and supported with examples, such as avoiding flight delays, saving money on currency conversion, and escaping daily routines. However, some ideas lack deep extension and appear slightly repetitive, particularly regarding financial savings and avoiding the hassles of international travel. This aligns well with the Band 6 descriptor, where all parts are addressed with relevant ideas, though some parts and explanations could be more fully developed and clearly expressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction and body paragraphs. Logical progression is attempted, and cohesive devices such as 'First paramount reason', 'Apart from that', 'On the flip side', and 'Moreover' are used to signpost ideas. However, paragraphing is problematic, as the essay lacks a proper concluding paragraph (it abruptly stops mid-sentence at 'although') and the second body paragraph is overly dense and long, containing multiple disparate points. Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, and punctuation or capitalization errors at sentence boundaries disrupt the natural flow. These issues reflect Band 5 Coherence and Cohesion characteristics, where organisation is present but overall progression suffers from structural and cohesive flaws.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The candidate attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate for the topic, including terms like 'fast paced job', 'fabulously', 'eminent places', and 'tourist spots'. However, there are numerous lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as 'serving full time job', 'waiting for it from long time', 'spending monet', 'does want to involve in rush', and 'convertion the currency'. Spelling mistakes are frequent (e.g., 'modren', 'scdule', 'vacationsns', 'accomodation', 'aboyt', 'markt'), which occasionally impedes the reader's understanding. While the vocabulary is adequate to convey the general message, the density of word-choice and spelling errors places this response firmly at Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional and relative clauses (e.g., 'If a person is taking off from the job...', 'While considering both views, I partially agree...'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak throughout the text. There are frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and article usage, such as 'everyone is serving full time job', 'individuals loves', 'Visitors doesnt know', and 'choose to travelling aboad'. Punctuation is also erratic, with missing capital letters at the start of sentences and misuse of commas. Because complex structures are frequently faulty and errors are recurrent, the response fits the Band 5 descriptor for Grammatical Range and Accuracy.
