IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is no doubt that people are more curious to learn more about their country and want to expand their knowledge rapidly, but this does not mean they will avoid travelling to different places in the future. I totally disagree with the statement and will give my relevant examples in the upcoming paragraphs.

Firstly, people are more excited to travel to other countries because different places have their own values and customs, which helps people to improve their general knowledge and makes them more versatile. For instance, 50 percent of the population around the world likes to visit the Seven Wonders, which not only pumps up their adrenaline but also improves their cognitive ability, so in future they will continue to visit those places over their own country. Furthermore, people like to spend most of their holiday outside their own nation because they want to gain more experience.

However, social media nowadays plays a vital role in people's lives, as most travellers would like to make a vlog for social media because they want to share their experience and encourage people to visit different tourist places around the globe. Moreover, if people visit those places in the future for sure they will gain knowledge and collect souvenirs as a memory. It is also important to know about their own country first, but as an explorer, people should travel all the time and make themselves diverse.

In conclusion, change is law of the nature so it is very essential to treval abrod and explore different langauges and tradition, so you can easily stand in front of anyone with confidence.

Referencing and logical progression between sentences occasionally falter, as seen in the transition from social media vlogging in the third paragraph back to general travel benefits. Paragraph structures are generally logical, but the logical flow within paragraphs could be smoother and more sophisticated, aligning with the Band 6 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The candidate demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as "expand their knowledge rapidly", "pumps up their adrenaline", and "cognitive ability". However, there are noticeable word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as "treval" instead of travel, "abrod" instead of abroad, and "langauges". Phrasing occasionally feels slightly unnatural or colloquial, such as "stand in front of anyone with confidence". While the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas clearly, the frequency of spelling errors and minor lexical slips prevents the response from achieving a higher band, making Band 6 appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures ("if people visit those places in the future for sure they will gain knowledge") and relative clauses ("which helps people to improve..."). There are, however, several grammatical errors and punctuation lapses, such as missing commas in complex sentences, run-on sentences, and subject-verb agreement issues ("change is law of the nature" instead of change is the law of nature). Although these errors do not seriously impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the grammar score from reaching Band 7.
