IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Traveling is the most popular activity in today's world. Some people believe that International trips can be replaced by local travel experience. I agree with this statement because of some advantages and will discuss my viewpoint in upcoming paragraphs.
To begin with, traveling in own country is lower in cost. Domestic travel usually involves cheaper transportation, accommodation and families can save their money and enjoy their trip in a good way. People can use their own cars, buses and local transportation to explore their own country. In addition to it, traveling in own country can save time because thier is no need to apply for a visa, and spend so much time on international flights. For example, Canadian people prefer to spend their summer vacation at different beaches, parks and do other activities in their own country rather than traveling abroad.
Furthermore, social media is the main factor to boost the domestic travel. People used to post their experience, posts and videos on the internet platforms and through that different people get attracted. Moreover, government tries to build more national parks, tourist spots and more attractive things in their own town. Due to this, employment can increase because of demand of workers at tourist places. Also, Ticket system at some places can be invested in building more attractive places.
To Conclude, Domestic traveling would be more helpful for everybody because they can explore their own country, food and culture as well as dress code rather than wasting money on international trips.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing with the idea that domestic travel will replace international trips. The writer provides relevant reasons, such as lower costs and time savings, supported by an example of Canadians vacationing domestically. However, some ideas lack deep extension. For instance, the paragraph introducing social media and government involvement touches on employment and infrastructure, but these points are somewhat disconnected from the main argument about personal holiday choices. The position is clear throughout, but the development of ideas aligns best with a Band 6, where relevant points are presented but some are under-developed or tangential.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as financial benefits in the second paragraph and external factors in the third. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or awkwardly used, as seen in the phrase 'In addition to it' and the transition 'Furthermore, social media is the main factor to boost the domestic travel.' Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the dangling referent in 'Ticket system at some places can be invested in building more attractive places.' These features reflect Band 6 performance, where logical progression is present but cohesion is faulty at times.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'transportation', 'accommodation', and 'infrastructure-related concepts'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are sometimes marred by slight word-choice inaccuracies or awkward collocations, such as 'enjoy their trip in a good way' and 'Ticket system at some places'. Spelling is generally acceptable, though there are minor slips like 'thier' instead of 'there'. The lexical range and control fit comfortably into Band 6, providing sufficient vocabulary to communicate the central arguments clearly despite occasional errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating the ability to construct conditional or relative clauses. There are several grammatical errors and punctuation lapses, such as 'traveling in own country is lower in cost' (missing article), 'thier is no need' (spelling and article errors), and 'government tries to build' (missing article). Despite these frequent minor errors in grammar, they rarely impede communication, and the meaning of the sentences remains clear to the reader. This balance of mixed structures and manageable errors is characteristic of Band 6.
