IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Holidays are a perfect way to take break from the basic life. It is debatable whether a large count of individuals will be travelling in their home countries for the vacation rather than going to the other nations. I strongly agree with this viewpoint due to many valid reasons.
The most prominent point is that by everything being extremely expensive it is very hard for individuals' to affort international trips. A large proportion of human beings earn the base salary only by which they can hardly afford the high costs of living which paves a path for them to avoid the foreign trips as their pocket does not allow it. To state an example, people need to pay for highly-priced tickets, stay and food if they choose to be in any other country and the prices are utterly high for everything in this century which is impossible for general public to afford these trips.
Moreover, some people love to explore their own surroundings in order to stay connected to their roots, the more they will travel in their own nation the more knowledge they will get about their culture and lifestyle which not only does help them to aquire more knowledge about their country but also helps financially by being cheaper.
In conclusion, although people has their own prefrences, I wholeheartedly hold the view that it will be more common in upcoming years for humans to stay in their own nations for holidays due to financial stability and connection to their roots.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The student addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing with the prompt and supporting it with reasons such as financial constraints and a desire to connect with one's cultural roots. The main ideas are extended and supported, for instance, by discussing the high costs of international travel including tickets, stay, and food. While some arguments, such as the point about exploring surroundings, could be developed with even more specific detail or a concrete example, the response successfully satisfies the core requirements of Task 2. The position remains consistent throughout the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, earning a solid Band 6.5 to 7.0 representation, safely resting at Band 6.5 due to slight over-generalisation in the second body paragraph.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding sentence beginning with 'In conclusion'. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'Moreover' and 'To state an example'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally a bit mechanical or slightly awkward, such as in the phrase 'by everything being extremely expensive'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas like financial issues and cultural exploration. The logical progression is generally maintained throughout the text, allowing the reader to follow the writer's argument without confusion, which aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate for the task, incorporating terms like 'prominent', 'international trips', 'financial stability', and 'prefrences' (though misspelled). There are some noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'take break from the basic life', 'large count of individuals', and 'affort' (afford), alongside 'aquire' (acquire). Despite these inaccuracies, the vocabulary is adequate to convey the message clearly, and the student attempts less common lexical items, placing the response firmly in the Band 6 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The essay features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including relative clauses and conditional-style reasoning (e.g., 'the more they will travel... the more knowledge they will get'). However, there are several grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, such as missing articles ('take break'), incorrect punctuation in 'individuals'', and spelling slips ('prefrences'). These errors do not impede overall communication, but they occur frequently enough to prevent the student from reaching a higher band. The control of grammar is satisfactory for a Band 6 level.
