IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Holidays are a perfect way to take a break from basic life. It is debatable whether a large number of individuals will be travelling within their home countries for the vacation rather than going to other nations. I strongly agree with this viewpoint due to many valid reasons.
The most prominent point is that by everything being extremely expensive it is very hard for individuals to afford international trips. A large proportion of human beings earn the base salary only by which they can hardly afford the high costs of living which paves a path for them to avoid foreign trips as their pocket does not allow it. To state an example, people need to pay for highly-priced tickets, stay and food if they choose to be in any other country and the prices are utterly high for everything in this century which is impossible for the general public to afford these trips.
Moreover, some people love to explore their own surroundings in order to stay connected to their roots, the more they will travel in their own nation the more knowledge they will get about their culture and lifestyle which not only does help them to acquire more knowledge about their country but also helps financially by being cheaper.
In conclusion, although people have their own preferences, I wholeheartedly hold the view that it will be more common in upcoming years for humans to stay in their own nations for holidays due to financial stability and connection to their roots.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and consistent position on whether people will holiday in their own countries rather than abroad. Your main ideas, such as financial constraints and the desire to connect with cultural roots, are relevant and extended. For instance, you explain how basic salaries and high costs of living make international travel unaffordable for many, which directly supports your argument. However, some arguments tend to over-generalize slightly without specific real-world examples, relying instead on generalized statements like 'people need to pay for highly-priced tickets, stay and food'. To reach a higher band level, ensure your supporting examples are more concrete or fleshed out with specific scenarios. Overall, you present a well-developed argument that completely answers the prompt requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your essay demonstrates a clear overall progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and conclusion. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, starting with financial reasons and moving on to cultural connection. You utilize basic cohesive devices effectively, such as 'The most prominent point is that', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion'. However, some of the referencing and transitional phrasing can feel a bit mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'by everything being extremely expensive'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate your ideas. To improve further, aim for smoother transitions between sentences and vary your cohesive devices to make the flow more natural and unobtrusive.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to incorporate less common items and phrases. You successfully use expressions like 'debatable whether', 'financial stability', and 'connection to their roots'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choices and slight awkwardness in collocation, such as 'take a break from basic life' instead of 'everyday life', and 'a large proportion of human beings earn the base salary only'. Spelling and word formation are generally accurate, but the lexical range lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher band levels. Incorporating more sophisticated, topic-specific vocabulary would elevate your writing significantly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout the response. Examples of complex structures include 'I strongly agree with this viewpoint due to many valid reasons' and 'the more they will travel in their own nation the more knowledge they will get'. While there are several error-free sentences, some grammatical inaccuracies and awkward phrasings persist, such as 'by everything being extremely expensive' and 'which paves a path for them to avoid foreign trips as their pocket does not allow it'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, and errors do not impede communication. To achieve a higher score, focus on increasing the frequency of error-free complex sentences and refining your syntactic control.
