Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that the number of people who are choosing to stay in their home country for the holiday is inceasing, whereas others maintain that spending holiday abroad is more affordable and enjoyable. While both points are understandable to some extent. I am firmly of the opinion that domestic travel is better, mainly because of the convenience and the costs associated with it.
One of the most compelling reasons why I believe that it is best for people if they spend their holiday in their respective countries is because it offers a less-stressful travel arrangement, promoting a more simple travel. This is largely because they do not have to deal with the complexties of international travel, which can consequently compromised travel. For example, people travelling locally for the holiday does not have to go through immigration, which can sometimes be unpredictable because even though a person already have all the necessary documents, there is still no guarantee of being allowed to enter a particular country, thus affecting the journey that is supposed to be joyous occasion. Additionally, spending holiday abroad could accumulate unexpected costs. This is primarily because of the varying foreign exchange, impacting travel budget. For instance, even though food and transportation prices might be fixed already, but due to the unexpected monetary exchange differences travelers budget can still be affected because of the unexpected currency equivalence.
On the other hand, some people would still prefer spending holidays abroad because they feel that it is more enjoyable as it allows them to experience something they cannot do in their country. For example, there are popular destinations abroad that cannot be find in their home country, which can consequently provide more joy since of the valuable experience it offers to these travelers. Moreover, the people who still choose international travel are of the opinion that the costs associated with domestic travel are more expensive, which can be unpractical at times because it should be more affordable since it is just within the country. For instance, there are places in some countries with majestic views but the problem is it can only be reach by combining various modes of transpotation, such air, sea, and land travel, thus going to this place would be costly.
In conclusion, although both views have their own justifications, I am firmly of the opinion that local travel can offer significant benefits to people as this can make travel more meaningful because the arrangements are less complicated. If more people would choose to travel in their own country, it is highly likely that they will get the leisure time they want without spending too much money.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, successfully covering both the view that domestic travel will increase and the opposing perspective regarding affordability and enjoyment abroad. The arguments are generally relevant, but some ideas show signs of under-development and slight repetition, particularly when discussing the financial impacts in the second body paragraph. While the main ideas are supported with examples, such as mentioning immigration checks and fluctuating foreign exchange, these examples tend to circle back to similar points regarding stress and unexpected costs rather than broadening the scope of the argument. To reach a higher band, the response would need to extend and fully develop all ideas with deeper insight and more varied supporting evidence without over-generalising.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments, such as the advantages of domestic travel versus the appeal of international holidays. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader through the text, utilizing markers like 'One of the most compelling reasons', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, some cohesion feels slightly mechanical, and referencing is occasionally affected by minor mechanical slips in sentence transitions. To achieve a higher level of cohesion, the writer could use a more flexible and subtle range of linking words and ensure that logical relationships between sentences flow seamlessly without relying on formulaic transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the writer's ideas. There are clear attempts to use less common and topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'compelling reasons', 'varying foreign exchange', and 'majestic views'. However, the response contains several inaccuracies in word choice, form, and spelling, such as 'inceasing' (increasing), 'complexties' (complexities), 'compromised travel', 'unpractical' (impractical), and 'transpotation' (transportation). Some phrases are also slightly awkward or imprecise, such as 'promoting a more simple travel' or 'due to the unexpected monetary exchange differences'. These vocabulary and spelling errors do not impede communication, placing the response firmly in the middle band, but to progress further, the writer needs to demonstrate greater precision in word choice, better control of collocations, and completely accurate spelling of less common items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting sophisticated structures like relative clauses and conditional statements. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'people travelling locally for the holiday does not have to' and 'a person already have', article misuse such as 'spending holiday abroad', and a fragment in the introduction ('While both points are understandable to some extent. I am firmly...'). Punctuation also requires attention, such as comma splices or missing commas around clauses. These errors represent a mix of structures with some ongoing inaccuracies that occasionally require the reader to re-read, though they rarely completely impede communication. To improve, the writer needs to exercise tighter control over complex grammatical patterns, subject-verb agreement, and article usage to produce a higher proportion of error-free sentences.
