Student answer (Band 5.5)

Everyone wants to travel and explore the world. In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. I disagree with this statement.

Holidays are the best chance to explore or travel. Every person is excited to go on holiday and chooses places according to their budget. In the future, the number of travellers could increase because every person has a dream to explore the world; they want to know about different places and different cultures. For instance, my friend has a curiosity to explore about different countries, especially their cultures as it helps him to connect with more people and broaden his knowledge.

Furthermore, day-to-day changes in lifestyle result in changes in the way of thinking. Developing technology, like people starting to use social media and posting every memory on their social media accounts, encourages them to explore or travel to different countries. Travelling abroad will develop their way of thinking after seeing the different lifestyles of different people. Additionally, they get a chance to explore and taste different kinds of food and meet different people. Also, exploring different countries will make a bond between different natioinality person by giving them chance to know to about each other.

In conclusion, neither going on holiday in their own country nor exploring abroad on holiday is becoming crucial in the future to know about different places and their food, and culture.

Overall5.5

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially, as your position that you disagree with the statement is stated at the beginning, but the overall development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. Furthermore, the response falls short of the minimum length requirement, containing 241 words instead of the required 250 words. While you attempt to provide reasons for your disagreement, such as the desire to experience different cultures and foods, these arguments lack sufficient supporting details and remain somewhat repetitive. To reach a higher band, you need to fully extend and support your ideas with more specific examples and explanations while ensuring you meet the minimum word count.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organisation with a clear introduction and conclusion, but the response lacks an overall logical progression throughout the body paragraphs. Cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, as seen with the frequent use of words like 'different' and 'also' to link ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, but the transition between points feels mechanical rather than natural. To improve this criterion, you should work on varying your cohesive devices and ensuring that each paragraph flows smoothly into the next, maintaining a clear and logical thread of argument from start to finish.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate for the task. You attempt to use some less common words, such as 'curiosity', 'lifestyle', and 'broaden', but there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'has a curiosity to explore about different countries' and 'make a bond between different natioinality person'. There is also a spelling error ('natioinality') and some awkward phrasing. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, you should expand your range of vocabulary and focus on using words with greater precision and correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response displays a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside some attempts at complex sentences that are often faulty. For instance, phrases like 'every person is excited' and 'as it helps him to connect' show basic control, but frequent grammatical errors occur in article usage, plurals, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns, such as 'explore about different countries' and 'a chance to know to about each other'. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve your grammar score, aim to use a wider variety of complex sentence structures with fewer errors in punctuation and basic syntax.
