IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent years, many people choose abroad for their vacations. It is often argued that people will choose to go on a vacation in their own country rather than visiting the foreign country. I disagree with this statement that in the future people will select their home country as their vacation spot. There are several reasons to support this notion and these reasons will be discuss in the forthcoming paragraphs.
To start with, one of major reason is people like to explore the new cities rather than the cities they already visited in their home country. This gives them the potential to gain some knowledge or insights about that country. For instance, according to the reports, people like to visit egypt during their vacations to learn or gain knowledge about the ancient egyptians architecture.
Another main reason to support this statement is that in today's time foreign trips are too budget friendly and easily available. Even the middle class or lower class can easily afford these trips. According to the statistics of foreign travellers report, there is a considerable change in the amount of the people who choose foreign country as their dream vacation spot beacuse the pocket friendly group trips are easily available to them.
There a lot of reasons why people don't choose their home country for vacations. Firstly, they get used to all the locations as they visited the locations multiple times. The individuals want to try something new which provide better utilization of their vacation time.
In conclusion, I disagree that people will choose home country for vacations beacuse budget friendly foreign trips available to them easily which gives them the chance to explore the other major countries.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task and presents a clear position disagreeing with the prompt, which is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat limited and under-developed. For example, the arguments regarding exploration and budget-friendly travel are introduced but lack deep extension or specific, well-fleshed-out examples. The mention of visiting Egypt to learn about ancient architecture is a relevant supporting point, but it remains brief and general rather than fully explored. To move towards higher bands, the writer needs to provide more fully extended ideas with deeper explanations and richer supporting details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates some organization with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, establishing an overall progression of ideas. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on transitional phrases like 'To start with,' 'Another main reason,' and 'Firstly.' Referencing and paragraph transitions lack seamless flow, making the structure feel formulaic rather than naturally cohesive. To achieve a higher band, the writer should employ a wider variety of cohesive links more flexibly and ensure that logical relationships between sentences and paragraphs are managed with greater subtlety.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, displaying a sufficient range to communicate basic ideas about travel and holidays. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'potential,' 'statistics,' and 'considerable change,' but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling, such as 'beacuse' and 'foreign country' instead of the plural form where appropriate. Additionally, expressions like 'budget friendly' are repeated. To progress further, the writer needs to expand their lexical range and exercise greater precision in word choice and spelling to avoid impeding communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer employs a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and basic complex forms. Attempts at more complex structures are often faulty, featuring noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation. For instance, there are issues with verb tense consistency and auxiliary usage, such as 'these reasons will be discuss' instead of discussed, as well as missing articles and problems with subject-verb agreement, such as 'there a lot of reasons.' Frequent errors persist throughout the text, though they rarely obscure the overall meaning entirely. To reach the next band level, the writer must demonstrate better control over a wider variety of complex grammatical structures with significantly fewer errors.
