Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the prompt minimally, stating a clear position of agreement, but the text is severely incomplete. The writing abruptly trails off mid-sentence, leaving the main ideas entirely under-developed and failing to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words. While the writer attempts to introduce reasons regarding the high costs of traveling abroad, these points are not extended or supported with relevant examples due to the extreme brevity of the response. To reach a higher level, the writer must fully develop their arguments with supporting details and complete the task by writing the required length.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

Information and ideas are not arranged coherently overall, largely due to the unfinished nature of the text. There is an attempt at a basic structure with an introduction and an initial supporting point marked by 'firstly', but paragraphing is not used effectively, and the writing breaks off prematurely. Logical progression is missing as the response stops mid-thought before any counter-argument or conclusion can be introduced. To improve, the writer needs to structure their thoughts into distinct, well-organized paragraphs with clear overall progression and cohesive devices that link ideas logically from start to finish.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, employing simple terms such as 'people', 'trip', and 'high costs'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'Trips abroad costs so high', 'spend for book a hotels', and 'reasturants costs', which display weak collocation and word formation. These limitations and errors place the response at this level. To achieve a higher score, the writer must incorporate a wider and more flexible range of vocabulary, use less common items with precision, and eliminate spelling and word-choice errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex structures that are faulty. Frequent errors appear in verb forms, agreement, and prepositions, such as 'folks will choose', 'Trips abroad costs', and 'spend large amount of their saving'. Punctuation is also problematic, evidenced by the stray lowercase 'firstly.' and a full stop interrupting the flow. These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader and distort meaning. A higher band requires a wider mix of structures with better control over grammar and punctuation, reducing the frequency of basic errors.
