IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is foreseeable that many people will prefer to go on national holidays rather than international ones. I firmly agree with this, as the rising inflation and subsequent decrease in the disposable incomes discourage people from travelling abroad on holidays. Moreover, the logistical convenience is an encouraging factor to go on holidays within one's own country.
There has been a considerable rise in the inflation rates around the world. As a result, the disposable incomes of people have sharply declined over the past few years, and majority of people find it extremely difficult to make the ends meet, so travelling abroad on holidays will be hardly possible in near future. To illustrate, my father always took us abroad to spend summer holidays but after COVID-19 pandemic, the world saw an ever-increasing inflation. The cost of even basic commodities rose to sky-high levels. So, now my father can only afford to take us to holidays within Pakistan. Hence, nowadays, it is a cost-effective approach to go on national holidays.
Going on holidays within one's own country is logistically convenient. People do not have to spend hefty amounts on travel agents to fulfill visa requiremnts. Moreover, with the political unrest prevailing all-around the world, many countries are not issuing visting visas. A pertinent example is that I applied for the visiting visa to visit my brother in UK during my summer holidays, but unfortunately, the visa got rejected at the last moment. I had already paid for my non-refundable tickets, so I had to cancel them. The uncertainity associated with international travels can disrupt your planning and also incur financial losses.
In conclusion, I reaffirm my conviction that it is likely in the future that people will travel within their own country to spend holidays. This offers dual advanatge of saving money and logistical convenience.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
Your position is clear from the introduction—“I firmly agree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the question with two relevant reasons: financial pressure and the logistical convenience of domestic travel. Both are supported with personal examples, including your father’s holiday choices in Pakistan and your rejected UK visa. This gives the response a clear, relevant argument. To strengthen it further, develop the future-focused claim more explicitly: much of the discussion describes current inflation and visa difficulties, so explain why these trends are likely to shape holiday choices in the future. The claim that “many countries are not issuing visiting visas” is also broad; qualify it or support it more carefully to avoid over-generalising.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response is organised effectively: the introduction states your view, each body paragraph develops a separate reason, and the conclusion restates your position. The progression from rising costs to travel logistics is easy to follow, and examples are placed where they support the relevant point. Linking expressions such as “As a result,” “To illustrate,” and “Hence” help make relationships clear. At times, however, the connections feel somewhat formulaic, and several sentences rely on explicit transitions rather than developing the link between ideas naturally. For example, the visa example could be tied more directly to the broader point about uncertainty and domestic travel. More varied referencing and smoother transitions would make the cohesion less noticeable.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a reasonably varied vocabulary and show some awareness of formal style, with phrases such as “disposable incomes,” “logistical convenience,” and “non-refundable tickets.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly. However, some less common expressions are inaccurate or unnatural: “make the ends meet” should be “make ends meet,” while “go on holidays within” and “the cost of even basic commodities rose to sky-high levels” could be expressed more naturally. Spelling slips such as “requiremnts,” “visting,” “uncertainity,” and “advantage” also reduce precision. To move further, prioritise accurate collocations and proofread spelling, while keeping the useful range of vocabulary you already demonstrate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
You use a range of sentence forms, including complex clauses with “as,” “so,” and “but,” and many sentences are controlled and easy to understand. For instance, “The uncertainity associated with international travels can disrupt your planning and also incur financial losses” presents a clear cause-and-effect idea, despite a vocabulary issue. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain. In “the disposable incomes of people have sharply declined … and majority of people find,” the second clause needs an article (“the majority”). “Travelling abroad on holidays will be hardly possible in near future” also needs more natural article and adverb placement, such as “will be hardly possible in the near future” or “will be very difficult in the near future.” Continue checking articles and sentence patterns in longer clauses.
