IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is a norm that after working so hard, individuals need to go on a break to reset and refresh their mind. Due to economic hardships, going on a holiday have become so expensive. I am of the notion, that in the coming years residents will prefer holidays in their country than traveling oversees.
Vacations in our own territories are affordable than across the world. Travelling across the world requires a lot of money and preparations too. For instance if a person want to go on a holiday abroad, some countries requires visa which might cost a lot. Despite visa charges, one requires flights, food and accomodation to stay.
Moreover, some nations are not user friendly that they will allow you to bring your own food. Travelling with your food cut costs because you will be able to make your own meals during your holidays than buying there. Therefore, avoiding travelling to other continents for holidays and focusing in your own homelands would be a noble idea as it save you a lot of money and avoid credit in the long run.
On the other hand, making trips across the world has its own advantages. Exploring outside is an opportunity to meet different cultural diversity. People will get to learn one or two from other nationalities. It also open doors to explore business ideas or opportunities that one may come and implement in their own states.
In summary, I would suggest that populations should focus on promoting their local tourist places to boost their economy. It is also a saving mechanism to individuals especially to those who have big families. I will not totally dispute traveling abroad, since people get to learn more on other cultures and business ideas.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you expect people to favour holidays at home, mainly because they are more affordable, while acknowledging the cultural and business benefits of overseas travel. The cost examples—visas, flights, food and accommodation—are relevant and help explain your view. You also address both sides of the question. However, some points are less fully developed: the claim that local holidays save money for large families is not illustrated, and the suggestion that visitors can bring their own food is not clearly connected to the comparison between domestic and overseas holidays. Develop these points with a specific example and explain more directly why the trend is likely to grow in the future.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, reasons supporting domestic holidays, a contrasting paragraph about overseas travel, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally focus on one main idea, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “On the other hand,” and “In summary” make the progression easy to follow. This already gives the essay a coherent flow. To make the links more flexible and precise, avoid relying mainly on these familiar transitions and clarify connections within paragraphs. For example, the point about bringing food follows the discussion of visa and travel costs, but its relevance to domestic holidays needs to be made explicit. The conclusion also repeats earlier claims rather than drawing the comparison together in a more focused final judgement.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to discuss the topic and convey your main ideas, including “economic hardships,” “cultural diversity,” “business opportunities,” and “boost their economy.” There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “a noble idea” and “saving mechanism.” However, some choices are unnatural or imprecise, which limits clarity: “user friendly” does not accurately describe countries in this context, and “avoid credit” is unclear. Spelling and word-form errors such as “oversees,” “accomodation,” and “travelling” also affect the overall control of vocabulary. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling, especially in key topic words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional example beginning “if a person…” and a contrast introduced by “On the other hand.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “going on a holiday have become” needs subject–verb agreement, while “some countries requires” and “It also open” have the same issue. Articles and sentence punctuation also need attention, as in “requires visa” and “For instance if…”. These errors do not generally prevent the reader from following your argument, but they reduce accuracy. Review agreement, articles, and comma use, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
