IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's world, travelling has becoming increasingly popular among many people living in different countries. However, it is argued by the section of society that in the future, a large number of people will choose to go on vacation in their own nation and not travel foreign countries. I completely disagree with this statement and will suggest reasons to support my viewpoint.
The first main reason is availability of stable income. People will continue to travel to another countries to enjoy their holidays because they will have a stable financial support. As technology is advancing and creating a wide range of employment opportunities for everyone, many qualified people will secure permanent job positions in the companies. Another important point worth considering is experiencing different cultures and languages. In order to gain valuable knowledge about distinct cultures and experience a vairety of languages, many people tend to visit to places outside their country. Also, children get excited when they go to another nation to spend their free time especially to buy foreign products while visiting to markets. While shopping they can experience different languages and can enhance their understanding and widen their horizon. Another possible reason could be to buy foreign products on their own so that they can avoid additional charges of import duty when they order products online. Sometimes vacations become an excuse to go and explore different brands where they can buy their desirable products ranging from apparel, perfume, home decore, accessories which ultimately support to maintain a prestigeous status in the society.
Taking everything into consideration, I firmly believe due to these specified reasons people will continue to go foreign countries to enjoy their holidays.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction (“I completely disagree”) and is maintained in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons for expecting overseas holidays to remain popular, including financial means and interest in other cultures. However, the support is uneven: the point about stable income is asserted rather than explained, and the discussion of shopping, import duty and prestige takes up considerable space without clearly showing why these factors will lead more people to holiday abroad in the future. The task asks about a future trend, so develop the reasons with clearer links to likely future choices and a specific example. This would make the response more fully developed across all parts of the question.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a main paragraph of reasons and a concluding statement, and the ideas are generally understandable. Linking phrases such as “Another important point” and “Taking everything into consideration” help signal the sequence. However, the main paragraph contains several distinct points—employment, cultural experiences, children’s shopping, import duty and social status—without clear grouping or transitions between them. This makes the progression feel list-like, and some links, such as moving from cultural learning to buying products, are not fully explained. Use separate body paragraphs for the main reasons and connect each example directly to its central idea; this would make cohesion less mechanical and the argument easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “employment opportunities,” “distinct cultures,” “import duty” and “desirable products.” These choices show an attempt to express specific ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however, such as “stable financial support,” “visit to places,” “widen their horizon” and “support to maintain a prestigeous status.” There are also spelling errors in “vairety,” “decore” and “prestigeous.” Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for example, “financial security,” “visit places,” “broaden their horizons” and “maintain a prestigious image” would express the intended meanings more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “as” and “so that.” The overall meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “travelling has becoming” should be “travelling has become,” and “another countries” should be “other countries.” There are also errors in verb patterns and prepositions, as in “tend to visit to places” and “people will continue to go foreign countries.” The long sentence beginning “Sometimes vacations become an excuse” also needs clearer grammatical control and punctuation. Review verb forms, articles, plurals and preposition patterns, then proofread each sentence. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen the response.
