IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Holidays are provided with the intention to freshen yourself up and in order to divert your attention from the hectic schedule of daily activities. In order to enjoy this particular time to the fullest, people go on to beautiful locations for spending holidays, not only in their own countries but also they go to abroad, to explore the fascinating beauty of nature.
I personally believe that people will tend to explore the various locations of their own countries in near future as the prices of air tickets are skyrocketed by the inflation caused by the uncertainty in the US-Iran war. Normally, there is a natural trend among the individuals to go abroad but it is rapidly changing, especially, in the developing countries with the gradual increase of stability in those countries. Moreover, it is cheaper to enjoy the same quality of sightseeing in your own homeland than that exists in some other country.
For instance, If a person lives in Pakistan and he wants to enjoy his holidays in Switzerland, it will be a very expensive trip for him. However, with a mere 25% of his spending on abroad trip, he can enjoy much more in Pakistan due to its vast range of extraordinary mountain ranges in its northern regions.
During my own annual leave, I visited the city of Murree and Nathiagali for holidays. I must say that the experience was much better than my trip to United States of America in the previous year due to the range of activities that I have performed during my stay in Murree hills and Nathiagali. Despite of the fact that USA visit was also very good but the overall experience of hoildays spent in my own country was much better, especially in terms of budget.
The trend has been drastically shifted from going abroad to spending holidays in your own country due to war looming. Therefore, we will see much of that in the coming time that the individuals will be much more inclined to explore their own countries during holidays rather than going abroad for it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear: you agree that domestic holidays will become more popular, and you give relevant reasons, particularly rising travel costs and the attractions available within Pakistan. The comparison between a trip to Switzerland and a lower-cost holiday in Pakistan, followed by your experience in Murree and Nathiagali, gives the argument useful support. You also address the future trend in the conclusion. To make the response more fully developed, explain the causes and likely reach of the trend with greater care. For example, the reference to the US–Iran war is presented as a broad explanation for rising airfares, and the claim that the trend is changing in developing countries would benefit from clarification or qualification. The main ideas are relevant and extended, though some generalisations remain.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, reasons for the shift, two examples, and a concluding prediction. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “For instance,” and “Therefore” help readers follow the argument, and the personal example follows naturally from the cost comparison. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, with several sentences beginning or connecting through formulaic transitions. The relationship between the claim about stability in developing countries and the later discussion of war is not made fully clear. The final paragraph also repeats the central prediction and the idea of war without adding a distinct concluding insight. More precise referencing and smoother links between causes, examples, and the conclusion would strengthen the progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “hectic schedule,” “uncertainty,” “sightseeing,” “extraordinary mountain ranges,” and “inclined to explore.” These choices help convey your ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural collocations and word choices, such as “prices of air tickets are skyrocketed,” “go to abroad,” and “the trend has been drastically shifted.” “Holidays are provided with the intention” is also an awkward way to introduce the topic. Spelling slips such as “hoildays” and inconsistent capitalisation reduce accuracy. Aim for natural combinations such as “airfares have risen sharply” and “the trend has shifted,” and check spelling and word forms during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “as,” “especially,” and “despite the fact that.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “people go on to beautiful locations” has an incorrect preposition pattern, while “Despite of the fact” uses an incorrect construction; write “Despite the fact” or “In spite of the fact.” In “If a person lives in Pakistan and he wants,” the pronoun reference is awkward, and “the experience was much better … due to the range of activities that I have performed” shifts tense unnecessarily. There are also punctuation and capitalisation issues, such as capitalising “If” after a comma. Review prepositions, tense consistency, and sentence boundaries to improve control.
