IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future, more people will choose to go on holiday in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday. Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In upcoming years, more persons will plan vacations in their own nation rather than travelling foreign countries. I partially agree with this statement. In the upcoming parts of writing I will discuss both scenarios and give reasons to justify that.
To commence with, many people want to visit in their own country because for other countries they need a visa. Moreover, the visa application process is very complicated and even they are not sure about its approval. Apart from this, international trips are more expensive as compare to domestic trips. To justify this, people need to pay high visa fees, travel tickets, accomodations and food. Also they need to book a tour guide if they are not familiar with the country. So these factors might affect their budgets.
However, international trips give them a chance to explore new things. When they go outside from their country they learn new culture and rules. They have more fun in these trips as they get chance to communicate with other foreign citizens. Also it promotes tourism and help a country to boost its economy. To elaborate this, many tourists are visiting to amritsar in their holidays because of golden temple which help many sectors like food, transportion and accomodations to grow.
To summarize this, expenditure is the biggest reason that why people do not want to go for international trips. As well as visa processing complications and timeline also impact this. But, international trips give them new experiences about a different culture, food and language. So according to me people should plan atleast one international trip in a year.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your response addresses the question and gives a clear, qualified position: you partially agree, explaining why domestic holidays may appeal while also recognising the benefits of international travel. The points about visa uncertainty and expense are relevant, and the Amritsar example helps illustrate how tourism supports local businesses. However, the discussion is not fully balanced: the reasons people may choose holidays at home are explained in more detail than the prediction that more people will do so in the future. The international-travel paragraph also shifts to benefits for the destination country, rather than fully explaining why individuals would still travel abroad. Develop these links and make your position on the future trend more explicit throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. The progression from reasons for domestic travel to advantages of international travel is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “However” and “To summarize” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in linking ideas. At times, though, the linking feels formulaic, particularly “To commence with” and “To elaborate this,” and some references are unclear: “this” in the final paragraph could refer to several preceding points. Use fewer stock transitions and connect each example directly to the claim it supports to make cohesion more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to discuss travel, costs and tourism, including relevant terms such as “visa application process,” “domestic trips” and “boost its economy.” There is also some attempt to use more specific language, for example “approval” and “communicate.” However, a limited range of imprecise or unnatural expressions reduces clarity and flexibility: “visit in their own country,” “as compare to,” and “go outside from their country” do not express the intended meanings naturally. Spelling errors such as “accomodations” and “transportion” also affect accuracy. Build a bank of natural travel collocations and check spelling; this will help you express familiar ideas more precisely and avoid relying on repeated general words such as “trips” and “things.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional idea (“if they are not familiar with the country”) and a contrast introduced by “However.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “many people want to visit in their own country” has an incorrect preposition pattern, while “Also it promotes tourism and help a country” has a subject–verb agreement error. The sentence beginning “To justify this” also contains a list whose structure is not fully controlled. Work on agreement, articles and prepositions, and revise sentences to ensure each clause has a clear subject and verb. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentence attempts easier to read.
