Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Jane,

I hope you must be doing well . I got your letter in which you asked me to recommend you a sports that is suitable for your routine and health. I believe swimming is the best sports in your scenario. The type of relaxation it provides , it is the much needed therapy for you in the form of sports. i know you are busy with two jobs which consume your energy and therefore, i believe you want a destress therapy as sports.

There is a renown swimming club in our town at the Steward street. For your convenience, its swimming classes are available through out the week even on Sundays as well .Moreover, the timings are also very easy to manage. Recently , they have started new session with a new swimming teacher. Timings are 6 to 7 in the evening on week days while 1 to 3 in the afernoon on weekends . I think they suit you very well . Furthermore, i plan to join that club too .I was wondering if you make up your mind , we both can join the club and go together for registration this weekend. The fee for the session is 200$ for a month while 100 $ is for registration. Since we live in a same town, therefore, it will be easy for us to go together .

I will be waiting for your reply regarding the admission in the club.

take care,

love ,

Sarah

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You address all three requirements clearly: swimming is recommended, the local club and its class schedule explain how Jane can learn, and you invite her to join you. The advice is relevant and supported with practical details, including the teacher, timings, and fees, while the friendly opening and closing suit an email to a friend. Your reasons—especially that swimming may help her relax after working two jobs—also make the recommendation personal. To strengthen the response further, develop the learning advice a little more, for example by explaining whether beginners receive lessons or what equipment they need. The fee and registration details are useful, but could be linked more directly to how she can get started.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The email has a clear overall progression: you introduce the recommendation, give information about the club, invite Jane to attend with you, and close by asking for a reply. Paragraphing helps distinguish the recommendation from the practical arrangements, and connectors such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” guide the reader through related points. Some linking is less smooth where several details are packed into one long paragraph, and “Since we live in a same town, therefore” uses two signals for the same relationship. Consider separating the club schedule and costs into a distinct paragraph and using simpler transitions. This would make the sequence of advice and invitation easier to follow while preserving the clear organisation already present.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task and includes some useful topic-specific language, such as “swimming classes,” “session,” “registration,” and “timings.” Phrases like “the much needed therapy” show an attempt to express the personal benefit of the sport, though some choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “a sports,” “destress therapy,” and “renown swimming club.” Spelling slips such as “afernoon” and “through out” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and check word forms and spelling; for example, “a sport,” “stress-relieving activity,” and “well-known swimming club” would communicate your meaning more fluently. The message remains understandable, but more precise phrasing would make the email sound more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the explanation that Jane’s two jobs “consume your energy and therefore” swimming could help her unwind. The main ideas are generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “I hope you must be doing well” (use “I hope you are doing well”), “a sports that is,” and “I was wondering if you make up your mind,” where agreement or verb forms need correction. There are also article and sentence-boundary issues in “we live in a same town, therefore” and inconsistent capitalisation of “I.” Practise accurate agreement, articles, and conditional phrasing, and proofread punctuation. Greater control of these patterns would make your varied sentences more reliable.
