Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sam,

Hope every thing is fine with you? I am glad that you asked me about a new sport. As you know I am currently a member of Loins sports club, which is very popular among youngsters, who want to learn new sports.

Tennis is the perfect recommendation from my side, as the sport club has various tennis ground. This will not only helps you to pick timing according to yours's work schedule, but it will also allow you to get more practice sessions. Apart from this, Tennis require flexible body type , which you already have because you do work out on regular basis .

I have been watching tennis for almost five months , as you know I posted lots of videos on Instagram of famous tennis players. So, I am also want to learn this game shortly, let me know if you want to join the club from 1st August, then we can learn together this game.

Let me know about your views regarding this plan.

Best wishes,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: recommending a sport (tennis), explaining how to learn it (joining the club), and suggesting learning together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention the club has 'various tennis ground', explaining the specific benefits of the club's coaching or facilities would have provided more depth. The response is clear and maintains a consistent focus throughout, fulfilling the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The email is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Apart from this' and 'As you know' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points of the task. To reach a higher band, ensure that the transition between your recommendation and the practical details of joining the club is smoother, as the current shift feels a bit abrupt.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'recommendation', 'schedule', and 'flexible'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'various tennis ground' (should be 'courts') and 'do work out on regular basis' (should be 'work out on a regular basis'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision in your word usage. Expanding your vocabulary to include more idiomatic expressions or precise collocations related to sports would enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'Hope every thing is fine' (missing subject 'Is'), 'This will not only helps' (incorrect verb form after 'will'), and 'I am also want to learn' (incorrect verb structure). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with apostrophes, such as 'yours's'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and verb tense consistency will help improve your accuracy.
