Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Amna,
I am so excited to hear that you are thinking about learning a new sport. I would be delighted to give you some suggestions.
I remember that how much you were enthusiastic to learn badminton in our college days. I think that would be quite suitable to learn as u were passionate about it. Moreover, it will not only help to stay physically active but also polish your communication skills.
I know about some centres where different sports are being taught and I would recommend you to join Lahore Development Authority's Sports complex as it is near by you residency. It would be easier to visit it. Furthermore, they have trained and cooperative staff who will help you to learn at a fast pace.
How refreshing it would be if I join you for learning badminton because it will help us to spend sometime together and relive our college days. I am looking forward to your response.
With love,
Sana.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points of the task. You recommended badminton, provided a clear suggestion on where to learn it, and proposed learning it together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, showing a good understanding of the prompt requirements. To reach a higher band, ensure that you expand slightly more on the 'how' aspect, perhaps by mentioning specific equipment or beginner classes, to add more depth to your response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The email is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You have used cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'because' to link your ideas effectively. The paragraphing is appropriate for the task type. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of transition words to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. The referencing is clear, and the progression of ideas from the recommendation to the joint activity is logical and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'enthusiastic', 'physically active', and 'refreshing' appropriately. There are some minor issues with collocation, such as 'near by you residency' (should be 'near your residence') and 'join Lahore Development Authority's Sports complex' (should be 'join the...'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more precise collocations or less common idiomatic expressions would help elevate your score to a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'I remember that how much you were enthusiastic' (should be 'I remember how enthusiastic you were') and the use of 'u' instead of 'you'. Additionally, 'some sometime' should be 'some time'. While these errors are present, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and avoiding informal abbreviations like 'u', which are not suitable for formal or semi-formal IELTS writing tasks.
