Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Sehaj,

I am writing this to inform you about new sport that you could learn in my area.

Actually, the sport is skating. Moreover, it will be suitable for you as you had a dream of learning this from high school. That is why I suggested you about this. Additionally, now we have this opportunity to learn it.

Although, there are various centres for learning this sport. However, one of my collegue, learnt about it from famous sport centre, named Reena sports. He told me that they teach really well and there reviews are good. Therefore, you should try to learn from there.

Apart from it, I also thinking of taking classes about it. So, I believe, we should learn it together. Thus, it will be more fun of getting classes together and we can spend time together.

I hope you will think about it to learn from that center. See you soon.

Kind regards,

Harman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: recommending a sport (skating), explaining how to learn it (Reena sports), and suggesting learning it together. The tone is appropriate for an email to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why you chose skating is brief, and the description of the learning process could be more detailed to fully engage the reader. To improve, try to expand on your ideas with more descriptive language or personal anecdotes to reach a higher band level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The email is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Additionally', 'However', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. While these are generally effective, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly misused, such as starting sentences with 'Although' or 'However' in a way that creates sentence fragments or awkward flow. Improving the variety and natural placement of these linking words will help your writing flow more smoothly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'opportunity', 'colleague', and 'suitable'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'I also thinking' (should be 'I am also thinking') and 'there reviews' (should be 'their reviews'). The vocabulary is functional and allows you to communicate your message clearly, but it lacks the range of less common or idiomatic expressions that would be required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'inform you about new sport' (missing article 'a'), 'suggested you about this' (incorrect preposition), and 'fun of getting classes' (awkward phrasing). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall fluency. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve your accuracy.
