Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Anand,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to encourage you to start practising Badminton sport as you were asking for an advice. I think this sport will comply with your body nature and as you are already playing pickleball, badminton is similar to it.
To learn this sport, I will recommend you to join the City Badminton Club as they are teaching free of cost to those under 21 years of age and the coach name Anand is a National player of Badminton. They have sessions for coaching after 5 pm in weekdays if you want personal coaching or if you want join team coaching then you can visit anytime between 10 am to 7 Pm.
I was also planning to join this sport and I am looking for some change too, but I am confused that I fit well for this sport or not?. If you are willing to visit their on weekends I can join you too anytime.
I hope you will like this sport and recommendation. I will wait to hear back from you.
Regards,
Sahaj

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You recommended badminton, explained how to learn it by mentioning the City Badminton Club and its coaching options, and suggested learning it together. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on why badminton is a great choice for your friend specifically, perhaps by mentioning the social benefits or the physical challenge, which would add more depth to your recommendation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The email is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on one of the required points. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To learn this sport' and 'If you are willing' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words. For example, the transition between the recommendation and the club details is a bit abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as 'I am confused that I fit well for this sport or not', which could be phrased more naturally to improve the overall progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'comply with', 'personal coaching', and 'willing to visit'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For instance, 'practising Badminton sport' is unnatural; it should simply be 'playing badminton'. 'Body nature' is also not a standard collocation. While these errors do not impede communication, they limit the score. To improve, focus on learning common collocations related to sports and hobbies to ensure your writing sounds more natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'as you were asking for an advice' (advice is uncountable), 'coach name Anand' (should be 'the coach, Anand,'), and 'visit their on weekends' (should be 'there'). Additionally, the sentence 'I am confused that I fit well for this sport or not?' contains a punctuation error and a slightly awkward structure. Despite these slips, your meaning is always clear, and the errors do not significantly hinder the reader's understanding of your message.
